Ohio Summer Showcase- Small but Mighty

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>I enjoyed a great day of basketball at Ashland University last weekend for the Ohio Summer Showcase, hosted by Tyler Bates of the [program_tooltip program_id='712435' first='Buckeye' last='State Blast'] AAU club. Players from around Northeast Ohio filled the gym and showcased their skills for dozens of college coaches. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Today we look at some guards who may be small in size, but big in skills! These are five to watch this coming season!</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='861127' first='Mya' last='Vermilya'], 5-4 2027, Loudonville</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This is the second time I have seen her play this summer, and she has a bright future in the game as she heads into her freshman season at Loudonvillle. Mya has a smooth perimeter game and can score from deep. She isn't afraid to let it fly from anywhere around the arc. Quick shot off the dribble.&nbsp;Also is polished for such a young age with a good basketball court sense. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='403972' first='DC' last='Lanier'], 5-2 2024, Port Clinton</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This kid has a lot of energy and fears nobody on the court. Even being 5-2, DC is able to finish a play in transition and is not afraid of contact. Moves well to the rim.&nbsp; Good range, she is very scrappy and aggressive. She plays the game with a hop, always looking to make a play for her team. Fun to see her and her growth in the game. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Abby Koenig, 5-5 2025, Norwalk</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Abby is a player who has a good skillset and fundamentally sound. She has a good pull-up midrange and is a good catch and shoot player. Good footwork and able to sneak the pass into the paint.&nbsp; Good range from behind the arc.&nbsp;Another player who plays with high energy and is a guard to watch this season. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Shyla Gruhlke, 5-4 2025, Norwalk</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Another player from the same school as Abby, it was Shyla who showed she is a scrappy guard with good speed and active hands. Able to push the ball on offense, vocal and a good leader. On-ball defense is solid, able to turn the ball over.&nbsp;Focused player and can play the game at various speeds. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='319032' first='Kenzie' last='Smith'], 5-5 2025, Norwalk</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Norwalk had several of their players at this event, and many of them caught my eye as players to watch this season. I like her aggressiveness and footwork, making plays. Good handles, makes the pass.
