Team Durant is technically a Maryland-based team, but they have many fantastic players from DC and Virginia that I want to talk about. We will break down the 15U, 16U, and 17U teams and some of their most impactful players. All of the girls on this team are talented. I have yet to get a chance to watch every single one of them, so the few I Havent, I left off. They’re still worth checking out, though!
Manchester guard Finley Weaver Finley Weaver 5’5″ | PG Manchester | 2026 State VA is a super promising offensive player. She is a fantastic shooter and a gifted 1v1 scorer. I first watched her play vs. James Madison in the VHSL final, and she knocked down some huge shots at the end of that game. She is fearless and competes on both ends.
Highlights
I watched Jayel a lot for Osbourn Park; she was always impressive. Jayel is fantastic in transition and is excellent at getting to the rim and finishing through bodies. She is a good spot-up shooter and moves well without the ball.
Jayda Dixon Jayda Dixon 5’9″ | PG Sidwell Friends | 2027 VA is the lone rising freshman on this team, and she may be one of their best players. Jayda has a terrific handle and excels at driving by defenders and getting to the rim. Her shot looks great, and her passing ability makes her a true PG. Jayda is a complete offensive player and one of the best players in her class.
Samia Snead Samia Snead 5’6″ | PG Osbourn Park | 2026 State VA is a fun player to watch. She is quick, has a good handle, and is a fantastic passer. She’s a pretty solid shooter and driver, but her court vision in transition is what sells me. She can score from the mid-range and also has a good pull-up jumper. She has active hands on defense too.
Highlights
Carly Sweazie Carly Sweazie 5’6″ | PG Bishop O’ Connell HS | 2026 State VA is excellent at getting downhill using her speed and finishing ability. She is tough to stop when she pushes the paces and gets out running. She is strong and a good athlete. She has massive potential and is a name to watch moving forward.
Keyarah Rainey Keyarah Rainey 5’9″ | SF Osboure Park | 2026 State VA is an athletic and gifted guard. She has a fantastic crossover and consistently gets by her defender. She has improved significantly at the rim as a finisher and has become an efficient scorer. Keyarah is a tremendous defender and racks up steals. She was the most productive out of the Osbourn Park Freshman last year, and her defense was the biggest reason why for me.
Dru Carlton Dru Carlton 5’8″ | SG Bishop O’Connell | 2026 State VA plays off the ball well. Dru can shoot the ball; her shot is quick and looks nice. She scores in bunches as well. She has significantly improved as a basketball player since last year, and I expect her to be terrific for Bishop O’Connell.
Denver Carlton
Denver Carlton
Much like her sister, Denver Carlton has improved a lot since the start of last season. She is a gifted scorer and has a fantastic jump shot. What I love about Denver is her ball-handling and passing ability. She always has her head up and finds shooters and cutters. Denver is great when she’s out running and will have a big year this upcoming season for Bishop O’Connell.
