The event was held from July 6-9 and featured some of the top travel teams in Southern California as well as some out of state teams. I was able to attend the event on Sunday, Jul 9 and I focused on as many of the CA teams I could watch. Here’s a look at some of the top standouts I saw.
1.
Christy Reynoso

– Sierra Canyon/Paul George Elite 17U Select 2024
Reynoso stood out as one of the best point guards at the event. She’s a very unselfish, pass first player who is content with being a playmaker and doesn’t hunt for shots. In transition, she pushes the pace and dribbles with her head up looking for open teammates. When she does look to score, she has a strong off the dribble game, attacking the basket and being able to finish at the rim.
2.
Lucy Land

– Yucaipa/Aim High Lady Ballers Red 17U 2024
Land stood out to me for her ability to move off the ball. In the game I saw most of her scoring came from off-ball movement. She was able to consistently knock down catch and shoot threes and she has a quick release. She’s kind of in the mold of a big guard/small forward type player. She can finish at the basket strong. She’s a good rebounder too who boxes out well.
3.
Alyssa Newby

Newby came off the bench in the game I saw but she made an immediate impact as a point guard/primary ball-handler. She’s comfortable running the offense, able to decipher when to make the pass and when to look for her shot. Good job passing and relocating. Pushes the pace in transition. Her slashing game is her strength and she was able to consistently finish at the basket. Communicates well on the defensive end.
4. Evelyn Sanchez – Oak Hills/West Coast Elite 16U LA 2025
Sanchez was a floor leader/point guard also in the mold of a pass-first unselfish player. She keeps the ball moving in the halfcourt and is able to read the defense and make the right pass. Swings the ball and finds the open teammate. Just an efficient floor leader. She pushes the pace well in transition and she dribbles under control with her head up and looking for the teammate running the break. Didn’t see her score much but she was effective.
