One of those tune-ups was Da Future Showcase in Mooresville hosted by Carolina Girls Hoops Report. Mooresville is a suburb of Charlotte in Iredell County known for being home to a number of racing teams and shops in addition to its proximity to Lake Norman.
We at Prep Girls Hoops were privileged to be on hand for the proceedings. Here is who particularly caught our attention representing North Carolina.

South Meck is one of the teams to beat among 4A teams in the Hoop State – and the play of Phifer ensured that continued to be the case in 2022-23. Phifer displays her value as a leader on the defensive end of the floor and is very confident in her 3-point shooting ability on the offensive end. She possesses superb ball handling skills – including the ability to dribble with either her right or her left hand and will find lanes to attack to the basket. Another element to her game is her versatility as she can give her team productive minutes as either a two in the backcourt or a three in the frontcourt. The Sabres concluded the 2022-23 campaign with a 24-5 mark (12-0 in conference).
Gabrielle Golphin
Gabrielle Golphin
If one’s name was any variation of Gabbi, Gabrielle or Gabriella one likely put forth a stellar showing on Saturday afternoon in Mooresville. The 2025 standout who attended 4A Chambers was another example of that. Golphin can keep defenses honest with her ability to either attack the basket or attempt a long-range jump shot. She also understands the art of boxing out when a shot is missed and the time comes to coral a rebound. Golphin ran this past AAU travel season with the Charlotte Monarchs and is listed at 5-foot-4. She is listed as attending Northside Christian Academy for this coming school season.
With Samyha Suffren having graduated from Cannon School and embarking on a collegiate career at ACC school Virginia Tech, this makes returning standouts such as Thompson a bigger focal point for the 2023-24 rendition of the Cougars. Thompson stands at 5-foot-7 and primarily operates in the backcourt at either one of the two guard positions. During this past travel season, she ran with Team United. Thompson causes problems for teams on both the offensive and defensive sides of the floor as she is a threat to corral steals and create additional possessions for her team. Cannon has been one of the premier private schools in girls basketball in North Carolina and that will surely continue with Thompson once again sporting Cougars maroon and gold this season.
Morgan Fields
Morgan Fields
For some young players, nerves may set in when taking to the court against more experienced high schoolers. Fields will enter her seventh grade campaign this coming season and she held her own throughout what was a competitive Saturday in Mooresville. Among the many elements to her game that caught the attention of many that were on hand were her scoring capabilities and her ability to take care of the ball. Fields is fresh off of an AAU campaign with Carolina Hornets United. She was also willing to attempt shots from long range. This season, one can catch Fields on the court wearing the Northside Christian Academy colors.
McField will have plenty of eyeballs on her as she completes her transition out of the middle school ranks and into those of the high school realm. Northern Guilford HS has established itself as one of the premier teams throughout the Hoop State in 4A play and the Nighthawks nest is where McField will call home for the next four seasons. She understands the art of handling the ball amongst a slew of defenders and possesses an ability to finish strong at the rim. Rebounding and passing are two other strong elements to her game along with an ability to drain 3-pointers. With McField wearing Northern Guilford purple, expect the Nighthawks to continue their winning ways.
