Some with the skillset to play the guard, forward, and point-forward positions and some with the power to play the 4 or 5. In this article, we look at these versatile forwards who stood out at the Freshman Showcase.
Canady was a force in the paint and performed well on both ends of the court. Offensively, she showed that she could score in the painted area and often it was through contact. She has a nice touch around the goal and made buckets while playing through the physical play. Canady was also a standout on the defensive end. She got a few rejections against her opponent and did a good job of playing helpside defense. No shot went up uncontested. Canady also rebounded well. She maintained a strong court presence on the inside and was standout at her position.
McCreary entered the showcase as a forward who loves to shoot from the outside and can score on all three levels. That certainly is her reputation, but McCreary mixed it up in the paint throughout the Freshman showcase and showed her offensive strength as an inside scorer. She did an excellent job early on just dominating on the inside, exploiting mixmatches and over-powering undersized forwards and guards defending her. Defensively, McCreary was effective inside and has the length to play the 4 and the 5 positions.
Highlights
The athletic and physical Volcy had a physical presence in the paint on both ends of the court. She was strong inside, preventing easy baskets under the goal. She more than held her own against Candady and some of the other power forwards in the building. On the offensive end, Volcy used her size and physicality to play tough inside, absorb contact, and put the ball in the basket. The Freshman forward also rebounded the ball well.
Kimora Green

No one played with more confidence and energy than Green. Though undersized at the Forward position, she attacked the rim with a purpose and more often than not she was successful. Green has the ability to get down hill in a hurry and attack the goal. She was able to maneuver through the defense, play through contact and get the score. She goes hard every play and was even called for a charge on one play. She embraces the physical play and it doesn’t deter Green from her mission – to get buckets. She got quiet a few during the PGH Freshman Showcase.
Hill was very impressive at Freshman Showcase, particularly on the offensive end. The lengthy and athletic forward has a smooth shooting form and touch and looks like it’s going in everytime she shoots it. Hill also showed a lot of versatility and showcased her 3 level scoring abilities. She shot the three and also had the ability to get into the paint and score with ease.
