Top six players to watch in 2024
The unquestioned leader and point guard for Sumner. Lainee returns after earning league 4A South Puget Sound MVP honors last season. She averaged over 22 points per game, and was a terror on both ends of the floor. She is quick, can handle the rock, and has the ability to create. She gets downhill using her speed and quickness, while also being a threat from three. In the mid-range she has the takent to create her own. She is excellent in the open floor and has a great basketball IQ, finding open teammates or getting all the way to the hoop about as quickly as any in the state.
Olivia has a very well rounded game. She is an excellent three point shooter, and is is able to score well in the paint with her toughness and physicality. She plays bigger than she is and rebounds well. She is athletic enough to guard multiple position and, making her that player who can do a lot of things for her team. She was a 1st team all 4A Puget sound league pick last season as a freshman.
Another good prospect in the Prep backcourt. She led the team in scoring last season. She gets her points from all levels. She can show off her skills in the mid-range game, and knocking down threes. She has active hands on defense and gets steals, often times leading to some creativeness at the rim on the other end of the fkoor. These two, along with Jada Travis Jada Travis 5’5″ | CG Bellarmine Prep | 2024 State WA , who runs the point most of the time gives Bellevue Prep one of the top backcourts in the entire state.
Kiara was a big part of the team’s success last season, helping lead BP to the state tournament, where they went 1-2. She exploded for 34 points in a loser out win over Davis. She is a three point threat for BP, making multiple treys in a good majority of last season’s games. She also has good speed in the open floor with craftiness around the basket to score. She does well shooting off the dribble in the mid game and gets fast break points off of steals where she also shows her court vision and passing abilities.
Maddy is a true back to the basket post player. She is a tireless worker when on the floor, and pursues rebounds despite having a size advantage over most any other player. She gets second chance buckets regularly and is always going to flirt with the double double. In fact, I don’t see many nights she won’t have one in 2024. She is good at establishing position deep in the post and scoring around the rim. She has good footwork and as I mentioned, she is always a threat to grab her own misses for second chances. She plays with a passion and toughness that make her a real problem for opposing teams with the size she has to go with it. She was a an all league selection last season as well.
