Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Josilyn Miller Josilyn Miller 5’9″ | CG Verdigre Public School | 2024 State NE is a player that blew me away when I first had the chance to watch her. You want to talk about someone who is physically dominance, a high motor, and no quit, look no further. Miller is putting on a show every game that she competes in. I would say out of the entire state of Nebraska, Miller is one of the more coordinated and calculated players with her actions out there on the court. She knows what spots she wants to get to on each take and doesn’t take no for an answer from her defender. I think Miller can move up these rankings come December’s update, she is surely good enough, I just need to see dominance early on in this high school season. Something that I’m sure is always on Miller’s mind when she is lacing them up.
I am a huge fan of Brynn Sebek Brynn Sebek 5’6″ | SG Pius X | 2024 State NE ‘s game. Sebek is a 5’6 wing, that I would categorize as a combo guard at this moment. She can shoot the lights out of the gym and is very good at handling the ball in both the half court and full. She is always one of the hardest workers on the floor whenever she is out there competing and that’s obvious to the naked eye. I think the biggest thing you get out of Sebek as a player is her consistency. You know that she is going to make good choices with the ball in her hands each possession and that doesn’t have to worry you as a coach. I’m not sure where Sebek will end up at the end of her high school career but if you have the chance to see her live this winter, do it. You won’t be disappointed.
McKenna Stover McKenna Stover 5’11” | SF Marian | 2024 State NE was a big part to her varsity teams success last high school season and she will try to repeat that again this time around. Stover is a lengthy 5’11 Small Forward. Some people may tell you that she is a Shooting Guard or Power Forward, but in reality at the college level, she could play the 4 position at a high rate. Stover moves off of the ball well and isn’t afraid to spread the floor. She usually has her way with defenders at the high school level because of her knowledge of when to cut to the basket and when she can catch her defender sleeping. In both the high school setting and AAU setting, Stover has been dominate these past few seasons. She works hard on both ends of the floor while being a skilled-team player. This is another player where I’m not sure where she will end up for college ball but whoever gets her, is getting a steal out of the state of Nebraska.
Someone who is one of the most dominate players in the post throughout the state is Kate Ligon of Papillion Lavista South high school. Ligon stands between 6’0-6’1 and she is a beast when she catches near the basket. She has the ability to turn going either way, she can score using either hand over an alike sized defender, she has a plethora of counter-moves she can pull out of her bag if she gets cut off, and she has a good second jump to get rebounds/put-backs at a high rate. When I have watched Ligon play the only concern I have is how long it takes her to make her post moves. Her moves are always uniformed, fundamental, and strong but sometimes she doesn’t have time to pull out exactly what she is intending to. If she can tighten that up this next season, opponents better watch out.
When I first had the chance to see Maggie Tynan Maggie Tynan 6’3″ | C Marian | 2024 State NE this summer I was impressed. She had size, ambitious, and great coordination with the ball in her hands. Her team got her the rock in the right spots most of the possessions so that she didn’t have to put it on the floor and she was a killer because of that. Her efficiency was off the charts and it was continued the entire tournament. From this weekend alone I could have told you that Tynan was a college level player. You can’t teach height and when you mix it in along with touch/skill of the game, that’s a great recipe for success at the next level. She was definitely a player that has been a Stock-Riser these past few seasons and I can’t wait to see where she ends up, at the end of her high school career.
