College coaches were in attendance, eager to observe the state’s top talent, and we had both local and national media covering the event, providing invaluable exposure for the young athletes. If you weren’t able to register, we regret that you missed out on this opportunity. The event showcased a significant presence of players from the 2027 class. Now, let’s spotlight six freshman players who particularly impressed me.
Ava Fowlkes | Point Guard | Maumelle High School | 2027
Ava possesses an impressive skill set and holds the potential to make a significant impact in the 5A conference. Standing at a solid 5’8″, she enjoys a size advantage at the point position, allowing her to see the court clearly over her defenders and deliver on-target passes to her teammates. Ava’s solid ball-handling skills, grant her the ability to drive to the rim and make high IQ decisions in transition. Her consistent hard work has led to notable improvements in her shooting, producing a respectable jumper that continues to progress.
Ava Basiliere | Post/Forward | Nashville High School | 2027
Ava made a lasting mark with her exceptional rebounding and low post-defense abilities. Standing nearly 6’0″, she showcases a deep understanding of how to leverage her height to disrupt shots in the paint and secure rebounds on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. Ava’s finesse shines through as she demonstrates the ability to finish plays over defenders and powers through contact with a delicate touch. Also, she’s very capable of pushing the ball effectively in transition which adds a layer of versatility to her game.
Allie Vaughn Allie Vaughn 5'5" | SG Springdale | 2027 AR | Guard | Springdale High School | 2027
I always find it enjoyable to watch Allie play. Whenever she steps onto the court, she consistently embodies certain admirable qualities—determination, sound decision-making, and a patient approach to letting the game unfold naturally without forcing it. Allie’s defensive intensity is truly impressive, as she skillfully applies pressure on the ball handler, disrupting their comfort and forcing them into panic mode. On the offensive end, her versatile skills shine through, showcasing proficiency in both on-ball and off-ball plays.
Brooklyn Holt | Guard | Scranton High School | 2027
I deeply value watching players with a profound understanding of the game and a keen basketball IQ. It’s incredibly refreshing to observe individuals play the game with a solid foundation of fundamentals. Brooklyn, in particular, catches the eye with her off-ball movement, ability to read and react to the defense, and her poise in handling the ball under pressure. Her grasp of the game is evident and adds to the joy of watching her play. As she continues to develop, she is undoubtedly poised to contribute significantly at the high school level.
Ke’Asia Pearson | Forward | Nevada High School | 2027
I’ve had the pleasure of watching Ke’Asia play on multiple occasions, and it’s clear that her development and confidence have been on a steady incline. She demonstrates remarkable versatility, excelling both in the post with her physicality and on the perimeter with finesse. Ke’Asia’s size and strength empower her to finish effectively around the basket, even through heavy traffic or contact. I look forward with anticipation to witnessing her ongoing growth and foresee her evolving into a substantial contributor at the high school level.
Jacey Halitzka Jacey Halitzka 5'4" | SG Bergman | 2027 AR | Point Guard | Bergman High School | 2027
Whenever Jacey steps onto the court, you can be assured she’ll distinguish herself as one of the premier shooters. Her skill in catching and shooting threes, with deep range I might add, and her knack for creating space with a tough-to-defend step-back move place her among the top in her class. Her patented step-back, particularly to the right, is executed with remarkable ease, presenting a significant challenge for defenders. Jacey’s smooth combination of changing speed and changing direction makes her a formidable force when attacking the lane. It’s worth noting that her playmaking skills have been continuously improving, evident in her precise and on-target passes to teammates.
