Continue ReadingAt this point in the game, everyone knows who the best players are in the state and where they attend high school. This winter is going to be one of the most competitive we have seen in a long time and there will be individuals producing at high rates, all throughout the state because of that. The four players that I have highlighted below have all demonstrated this past 6 months that they are ready to have a big upcoming season for their perspective high schools, producing at an efficient and consistent rate. If you have a chance to stop by and see any of these individuals perform this winter, I would do so, you won’t be disappointed.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Coming off of a dominate AAU spring/summer season, Camdyn Kay Camdyn Kay 5’10” | CG Dubuque Hempstead | 2024 State IA has some offers to play at Collegiate level and I can see why. Kay is a Combo Guard with good size and a physical demeanor. She has more of a guard like skill-set, while wanting to attack her opponents on a consistent basis. Most of the time, she likes to go toward the hoop looking for AND1 opportunities off of the dribble but she can also step back and hit a three or create for the others around her. This high school season Kay is going to have to be a big producer on the court if her team wants to find success. They will be older this year and more experienced as a whole but it all starts from the leader in front and that will be Kay. As for after high school, I think that her commitment is going to come sooner rather then later but we will just have to wait and see.
Jadyn Petersen Jadyn Petersen 5’8″ | CG Dike-New Hartford | 2024 State IA has been a high production type player for her Dike New Hartford High School team over the past few seasons. As of most recent, Petersen and her team are coming off of a 2A State Title from last winter and looking to repeat once again this time around. I would describe Petersen as a player who just gets it done. She isn’t going to kill you with flashy moves but moreso with fundamentals and efficient play. Once she beats her opponent to the lane, she does a great job of playing off of two feet, giving herself the ability to score/pass in a plethora of different ways. Defensively, she is a pesty competitor that sticks onto her matchup, beating them down the floor a majority of the time. Earlier this month I published the 2A High School Preseason Power Rankings and Dike is my favorite to hoist the trophy again this season. If Petersen can take care of her business per usual and the team follows the same blueprint as last year, they will be just fine.
Bliss Beck Bliss Beck 6’0″ | C Clear Creek Amana | 2024 State IA is competitive. It doesn’t matter what she is doing, you can tell that Beck wants to win and will help her teammates out in anyway to make that happen. When I have seen her compete on the basketball court the past few seasons, I’ve been pleasantly surprised by her production. Beck stands at 6’0 and moves quickly down the floor. She is coordinated and displays balanced footwork on most possessions in the paint. Not to mention, that defensively she has some length to get consistent blocks on opposing players that are driving toward the rim. This season CCA will bring back a loaded roster. They should coast most of the season but in big games, against teams that play at a State level, everyone will need to step up. In those situations, Beck will be called upon to produce and if she can do that, their team will be VERY hard to stop in the long run.
I am going to say this until I am blue in the face. This Cedar Rapids-Prairie High School team has every piece to be a top team in this Class this season. They will have skilled players at each position talent wise, they will have athleticism/size on most teams across the board, and they will have experience. That is where Delaney Seay comes into play. Seay is one of the Seniors on this squad that is going to be one of my “X” factors for their season. Overall, she can do a little bit of everything at the Guard spot. She can handle, score, rebound, and create at a nice rate. I expect this teams dominate players to do just that this season and dominate but after that, there will be some questions as to who will come in and produce when it matters the most. If Seay can make the most of her opportunities and show early on in the season that she is making everyone else better around her, then this group is going to be dangerous come Playoff time.
