Continue ReadingPVI transfer Sadie Shores Sadie Shores 5’10” | CG Woodgrove HS | 2024 State VA just had a season where she was the starting PG for one of the best teams in the DMV. Playing in the WCAC against the best of the best and doing it as well as she did was super impressive. Sadie now comes back to Woodgrove, and her role changes. Her points will be more critical here, and I think she delivers on that. Sadie does everything well. She plays defense, rebounds well, makes plays for others, and can knock down jump shots. Sadie is one of the best Seniors in the state and should have a huge year.
Ella Mahaffey Ella Mahaffey 5’8″ | SF Riverside | 2024 State VA is smart and fundamentally sound. She is listed as a SF, but she’s much more of a combo guard and plays more PG for Riverside. She has great size as a PG, and she’s super skilled when she gets to the rim. Her strength and athleticism are underrated, and they’ve gotten better over time. Ella can shoot, and she’s a good playmaker. Ella always makes the right play and is a good defender as well. She’s in for a big year, and I think she leads Riverside to somewhere close to 20 wins.
Last year, James Madison ran a lot of offense through Stella Gougoufkas Stella Gougoufkas 5’10” | SF James Madison | 2024 State VA . Now, this is a four-time running state championship team in James Madison, and although they are known for their defense, this still means a lot for how good Stella Gougoufkas Stella Gougoufkas 5’10” | SF James Madison | 2024 State VA is. Undoubtedly, Stella has been one of the biggest risers over the past year, so I have no doubt she will be one of the best players in NOVA this year. Stella is really strong and uses it to punish defenders in the post. She does a lot of her best work when attacking the rim from the perimeter with her aggression and athleticism. She is also an excellent shooter and can hit shots in multiple ways. Stella is a Holy Cross commit, and she should have a monster year.
Hope Drake Hope Drake 5’11” | SF Briar Woods | 2024 State VA is a fantastic shooter and matchup nightmare. She is almost 6 feet tall and is comfortable shooting over defenders. A lot of what Briar Woods does offensively flows through Hope, and she provides offense to them in multiple ways. As I mentioned, she is a fantastic shooter, but she also takes advantage of smaller defenders on her and is also a great playmaker. Hope can play the 3 or 4 effectively and does an excellent job on the glass. Hope was Potomac district player of the year, a feat I could see her repeating this season.
Highlights
At my center spot, I have Emma O’Connor Emma O’Connor 6’0″ | PF Westfield | 2024 State VA . Emma has played on a Westfield team that was not very good last year. Emma is versatile and imposing on defense. Emma won defensive player of the year in a loaded Concorde District. Her length and positioning are elite, and she blocked a lot of shots last year. On offense, she can shoot well and does a good job getting to the rim. Her footwork out the post and facing up are both fantastic, and it allows her to get to the basket. Emma’s ranked pretty high, but I still don’t think enough people have seen her play. Hopefully, that changes this year.
