Continue ReadingWe broke down the top ten kids in the updated 2025 rankings. Today, I’d like to go through and knock out some other rankings content. First, we’ll highlight some stock risers in this iteration of the 2025 class, and we’ll end the day by talking about some new names on the rankings.
Katelyn McGinnis Katelyn McGinnis 5'10" | CG Kimberly | 2025 State WI
I’ll keep it brief on McGinnis since we took a deeper dive into her yesterday. McGinnis exploded last summer and became a name that Power Five schools took note of early and often.
Although the likely route for Lodes at the next level is track, she’s a talented basketball player. Lodes is an excellent athlete with plenty of range. The lefty played significant roles in the most prominent games of Kettle Moraine’s season last year and played well each time. You won’t find athletes who can move like her, knock down perimeter jumpers, and lock in defensively as she can.
Makenzie Hawk Makenzie Hawk 6'0" | PF Sun Prairie West | 2025 State WI
I had someone I trust speak highly of Hawk last high school season, and although the game I watched wasn’t her best, she was talented. I specifically went to watch her in the AAU season a handful of times, and I thought she showed more than I expected to see. She was physically dominant in the pools she was in and made athletic plays. I believe she’s a kid who could excel this upcoming high school season at Sun Prairie West, and even from what I saw this summer, she could have more room to develop than you’d think.
Payton Morgan Payton Morgan 5'10" | SG Laconia | 2025 State WI
Coming into the AAU season, I thought Morgan was a small-school prospect at the next level. However, as the summer progressed, I thought she was more of a scholarship-level talent. Morgan has good size, length, and a high basketball IQ, but that’s all traits I already knew about her. In July, I saw things I didn’t think she could do. The best example of this was in her team’s first game at Meltdown. In that game, two lead guards on her team didn’t play. One was injured early in July, and the other went down in that game. Morgan took the ball late in the game and took it over. She created off the dribble, made tough pull-up jumpers, and looked like the calmest kid on the floor as she led her team to a comeback win.
Lauren Strifling Lauren Strifling 5'11" | PF Homestead | 2025 State WI
I remember talking with Strifling back in September of 2022 and talking about how she has a chance to thrive in this new look CBA 17U team, and she did more than that. Strifling is a versatile four that can attack off the dribble, but the threat that can break games open is her shooting. At 5-11, she had multiple contests of five or more three-pointers, and she’ll bring that confidence back to a Homestead team looking to make a statement.
Aubrey Leonard Aubrey Leonard 5'8" | PG Laconia | 2025 State WI
Leonard had an excellent summer, but I had already thought much more highly about her than I had coming into 2023 after what she accomplished in the postseason in high school. Against one of the most aggressive pressing teams in the state title game, she made a name for herself. In 32ish minutes in that game, with high-level athletes flying at her from all angles, Leonard turned the ball over twice, and both of them, I believe, were in half-court sets. Her ability to control a game is second to none, and she can continue to build her reputation for the next two years.
