Here are my standouts for week 4 of the Michigan Basketball Academy Fall League.
Millman did a great job running the Point for her East Grand Rapids team. She is crafty with the ball. She took the ball hard to the rim and finished through contact numerous times. She also showed her range by knocking down a couple of 3’s.
Manders is a long rim protector and came away with plenty of blocks on the night. Her footwork around the rim is impressive and she positions herself well to secure defensive rebounds.
Amey’s exceptional communication skills and sharp basketball IQ make her an invaluable asset to any team she plays for. She drove to the rim and drew multiple defenders before passing to the open shooter multiple times. Her passing may be something we have underestimated over the years. I look forward to watching her senior season.
Highlights
Martin is just straight-up strong! I would not want to be the person guarding her when she decides to take it to the hoop. She gets there with authority. She fights hard on the glass and had multiple offensive boards for put-backs. She showed off her range by knocking down a few corner three-pointers. If Muskegon can keep everyone healthy this year, they should make a run in the postseason.
Winston is another threat on a talented Muskegon team. She displayed her ball-handling skills by maneuvering around the pressure defense. Her deadly cross-over left her defender stumbling. She also has a nice shot and knocked down a couple 3’s.
Thelen is college ready right now! Her basketball IQ is incredible. She is constantly talking on both ends of the floor. My favorite part of her game is her passing skills. Lawrence Tech got themselves a good one in Thelen!
VanTimmeren was living at the free-throw line last night, and that’s because the only way to stop her when she got the ball in the paint was to foul her. She was jumping screens on defense at the top of the key, making it difficult for the teams to get their offensive going. I see a big junior season coming for Emily.
