From Shreveport to Monroe, several players displayed their ability to do multiple things at the forward position. In this PGH exclusive, we will look at some of the forwards who impressed us during weeks one and two of the new season.
Ramiah Augurson Ramiah Augurson 6'0" | CG Wossman | 2025 State LA (6’1″ | Wossman | 2025)
Augurson is a do-it-all wing/forward for the defending state champions. She can rebound and bring the ball up as your lead guard or run the floor and fill the lane like a natural forward. Her natural instincts are to attack the goal as she did in the Wildcat win at Parkway. Matter of fact, Augurson is relentless when it comes to attacking the glass. She is long and rangy with the ability to score from all three levels. Augurson is definitely one of the best players in north Louisiana and will be a key reason why the Lady Wildcats will have success this season.
Brittany Burton Brittany Burton 6'3" | C Wossman | 2024 State LA (6’3″ | Wossman | 2024)
The Lady Wildcat center is an imposing figure in the middle. She has a great set of hands and is very good when it comes to rebounds and putbacks on the offensive end. On the defensive end, Burton can block shots that spark the Wossman transition game. When it comes to being a solid figure in the middle, Burton gets the job done. She is a big part of what Wossman does on the floor.
Kamara Effit Kamara Effit 6'1" | C Southwood | 2025 State LA (6’2″ | Southwood | 2025)
Kamara Effit Kamara Effit 6'1" | C Southwood | 2025 State LA is definitely an underrated player. Now, that may be because of the Lady Cowboy freefall last season. However, what Effit does on the floor will be a big part of the Lady Cowboys resurgence this season. She has a long reach and can rebound the ball on both ends of the floor. In addition to her rebounding prowess, she can run the floor well rim-to-rim. Put those tools together with her feathery touch from the line and her ability to block shots, Southwood has a possible double-double machine that provides great interior defense.
Dakota Howard Dakota Howard 5'10" | SF Parkway | 2025 State LA (6’1″ | Parkway | 2025)
Howard is one of the more impressive players not just in north Louisiana, but in the whole state. She has a versatile skill set that allows her to play all five positions if need be. Howard can handle the ball in the open floor and distribute it like a lead guard. If you need her to do the dirty work in the paint, she can rebound in traffic or cause havoc on the offensive boards. She can score from the perimeter as well. Howard is a mismatch for most players because of her skill, quickness, and length. She’s definitely a player to watch all season long.
Avery Ryan (6’1″ | Benton | 2026)
Ryan may be an underclassmen but she can definitely handle herself in the post. She can run rim-to-rim with the best post and knows how to establish position early. Ryan catches the ball and keeps it high when she is defended by smaller defenders. She is also very good at tracking rebounds when the come off the rim or glass. She is a young talent and will only get better playing the post. Benton should look to her a lot as the season goes on.
North Louisiana has some of the best girls basketball talent in the state. These five forwards are a testament to that.
