This post-Thanksgiving tournament featured some of the best players and teams from the Southern California arena both Southern Section and City Section. I was able to attend the even on Monday Nov. 27 and Wednesday Nov. 29. Here’s a look at some of the top standouts I saw.
1. Kylie Ray – Crescenta Valley 2024
A Utah commit, Ray was one of the best guards I saw on the first day of the tournament. She’s a leader and constantly communicating on the court. She’s able to create her own shot but is a pass-first player who is always looking for her teammates. Good change of pace, strong of the dribble game. She can shoot the pull-up jumper and face up threes. Consistently able to get to the basket.

– LACES 2026
Aubrey is a bit of a tweener between a wing and big forward. She’s aggressive offensively, comfortable getting her own shot. She can put the ball on the floor and uses her strength to bump off defenders on her way to the basket. Likes to play in the high post and shoot the floater off the attack. Shoots the face up jumper consistently especially from three-point range. Good screener.
3. JuJu O’Brien – Mira Costa 2024
O’Brien was able to play both guard positions, but is definitely a fluid scorer. She can attack the defense off the dribble and was able to get to the basket consistently. Able to knock down the pull-up jumper in the midrange. Good ball handler who dribbles under control and gets to her spots on the court. She’s a strong guard. who uses her size to draw contact at the basket and get to the free-throw line.
4.
Andrea Hurtado

– Louisville 2024
Hurtado was one of the better point guards I saw. She reads the defense well and consistently made good passes through the teeth of the defense. She sees the halfcourt well; uses the lost art of the bounce pass to find open teammates. Good three-point shooter off the catch.
