Players that have displayed their superior ability over the past month on the high school floor at an impressive rate. In the article below, we cover five athletes that have been vital to their teams success so far this season. Each player has demonstrated the ability to be a difference maker on several different levels for their perspective team and that’s only going to continue moving forward.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Skutt Catholic High School, out of the Omaha area, has started off their season with a perfect 9-0 record and in convincing fashion might I add. The SkyHawks have even been so good as to travel to Arizona for a Holiday tournament, where they ended up taking home the Championship with a perfect record. One of the reasons for this teams success right now is due to the play of one of their star Guards, Peyton McCabe Peyton McCabe 5’4″ | PG Skutt Catholic | 2024 State NE . McCabe is a Drake commit and an impressive talent. The best way to describe McCabe’s game would be quick. She understands that she isn’t the tallest on the floor and because of that, she has to get her shot off a little quicker then most, with a little bit more space around her. The reason that I mention this is because McCabe can do several things at a high level in this sport but her best ability is letting it go from deep. Her ability to shoot and make plays from distance is next-level. There is no other way to put it. This past few years for the Skyhawks, McCabe has been a beast. She is truly going to be missed by this program once she graduates but until then, they have some unfinished business to take care of over the next couple of weeks.
Kennadi Williams Kennadi Williams 5’7″ | PG Lincoln Southwest | 2024 State NE is going to be a duel-sport athlete at the University of Nebraska next year but as for right now, she is locked in on the current basketball season at hand. Williams is a difference maker on the high school court and I think she is going to be able to make that translate to the collegiate level as well. She moves effortlessly with the basketball in her hands but is also good enough to produce off of the ball. To play at the collegiate level successfully, you need to be versatile. The game changes quickly and if you can’t adapt, you could be left behind. In Williams case, she can do several things at the 1 or 2 position consistently and efficiently, that’s going to translate. Let’s not get too ahead of ourselves, Williams is going to continue to kill it this year, all the way into the playoffs. If her team continues to produce around her, things are going to work out perfectly fine for this group in the end.
Lilliana Petersen Lilliana Petersen 6’0″ | C Omaha Central | 2024 State NE has always thrived whenever I have seen her compete. That has been proven this season with how many offers and how much interest she is receiving from collegiate programs all over the Midwest. Petersen stands at 6’0 and she is physical. She can hold her on in the paint, fight for rebounds and put-backs against alike sizes players, screen and seal to the basket, and she can “wall” up defensively. When you add that all together, you get a producer and that’s what Petersen has been as of recent. This season she has shown her confidence and that has helped her receive interest looking toward her future on the basketball court. Where will she end up? I’m not sure but at this pace, her and her Omaha Central team are going to continue to kill it. They have all the talent and personal, they just need to stay locked in on their goals for the season. When they do that is when they are at their best.
McKenna Stover McKenna Stover 5’11” | SF Marian | 2024 State NE of Marian High School is talented in several aspects of the game. She understands her role in every situation and is very good under pressure. To start off this season, Stover is doing it all at the 2-4 positions on the hardwood for her Marian team. She is scoring at a high rate, getting stops on the defensive side against all types of opponents, and she is helping lead her team from a vocal/emotional stand-point. Throughout their first 6 games, Stover is averaging 9.2 PPG, 6 RPG, 2.7 APG, and 2.7 SPG. As you can tell, she makes it happen. Whatever “it” may be. It’ll be interesting to see how the rest of her season plays out but it’s been so far, so good. She is producing and her team is winning. Two things you love to see.
I’m going to say it now before it’s too late for everyone. If you don’t know, every team better watch out for Lincoln Northeast High School. Lincoln Northeast has started off this season with a perfect 9-0 record and they are dismantling their competition on most nights. With a team that possesses 5 starting Seniors, you can tell that this group has one goal in mind and that is to bring home a State Title. One of their most dominant starters comes in the form of Combo Guard, Serena Heeren Serena Heeren 6’0″ | PF Lincoln Northeast | 2024 State NE . Heeren is 5’11 – 6’0 and extremely athletic. Not to mention, that she is also coordinated, disciplined, and smart in her decision making. She knows what she wants to do at all times and usually makes winning plays as a result of that. To have a team with 5 starting Seniors is a clear advantage on the high school floor. Especially when all 5 players could potentially play at the next level, not even including their talented group of underclassman coming off of the bench. Like I said above, if you don’t know about Heeren or this group, you should learn because you’ll be hearing their names a lot more this season.
