The players highlighted in this article were all mostly ranked prior to this update but they all share the common factor that their stock has risen over the past few months and they all have promising futures on the basketball court looking forward.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
Gueryn Kay Gueryn Kay 5’9″ | PG Blair | 2027 NE is someone that has stepped up her first few games of the season and shown that she is going to be a player that other teams need to game-plan for, while looking toward the future. Kay is an individual that competes with a lot of raw emotion each play. She doesn’t take any time off when she is on the floor and because of that, she see’s a lot of positive results. In her teams scrimmage to start this winter, Kay hit her teams game winning field goal as time expired to win by 1. A big shot to start off her career at Blair High School, even if it was during an exhibition game. Keep your eye out for Kay and her name to be featured a few more times this 2023-2024 season. With everything I’ve seen thus far, we will definitely be hearing more about this group moving forward.
Fort Calhoun High School has started off their season with a 2-0 record and a main reason for that being because of the play of this teams underclassman. One that I am specifically talking about is Raeann Massey Raeann Massey 5’7″ | PG Fort Calhoun | 2027 NE . Massey is a point guard, that is seeing the floor a good amount this season already. In her first two contests, she is averaging 10 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 1 APG, and 3 SPG. Some good numbers accounting for the factors that her team is undefeated and holding their own in most major categories compared to their opponents. I would categorize Massey as more than just a system player but she definitely makes her teams system work more smooth than it would without her. If she can continue with this production and start to get her teammates involved a little bit more from her PG spot, this team will be running at full speed moving into the Playoff’s, when they come around at the beginning of 2024.
Highlights
Addison Medeck Addison Medeck 6’2″ | PF Papillion LV South | 2027 NE is going to be an individual that everyone talks about over the next four years as it pertains to high school basketball in Nebraska. Her mixture of size, physicality, and balance, is impressive to say the least for her age. When you take those three things into consideration and understand the raw talent she possesses with the ball, you start to understand why Medeck could be a player that receives college interest before most others out of this 2027 Class. To start off this winter, Medeck has been holding her own and leading her PLVS team in scoring, rebounding, and blocks per game. They currently sit at 1-1 with a contest against Marian this evening. If they can take it one play at a time and everyone does their job on the glass, it could be a barn-burner but who knows what is going to happen this early on in the season. As for Medeck’s play-style specifically, if she stays on the path she is currently on, it’s hard to see her not competing at the collegiate level one day.
I don’t know too much about Sage Dyer Sage Dyer 5’10” | PF Crawford | 2027 NE and her play-style but over her first two varsity games, she has averaged around 8 PPG and 8 RPG, on the way to helping lead her team to a 1-1 record. It says something for a player to come in their first year in a program and to almost average a double-double in their first couple of games. In this case, Dyer is tall but still only stands at around 5’10, which means with these numbers that she has been killing her competition due to her high motor and athleticism in the paint. When you have an athlete in the middle, you have a lot of options as a coach. I’m happy that Dyer is getting the experience she needs inside the lane to learn and expand her game. This is going to make her confident and an overall better player. If she continues to keep up this production, she is going to be someone who stays relevant throughout this 2027 Class in Nebraska moving forward.
