Eboni Clay Eboni Clay 5’6″ | CG Benson | 2024 State OR , a senior guard who transferred from Grant last season, continues to be a massive contributor to Benson’s incredible success, including their current #1 ranking in the state. She is a guard who has very few holes in her game and can score at all three levels. In the Capitol City Classic, Clay had multiple impressive performances including 26 points in the semifinal game versus West Salem as well as 15 points in the championship win over South Medford. Playing alongside several premier talents in the state, Clay has been playing impressive basketball all season long and will have a huge role in the Techsters’ hopes for a state title at the end of the year.
Olivia Bennett
Olivia Bennett
Cascade was the smallest school — the only one from the 4A level — participating in either bracket of the tournament this past week, and impressively came away with two wins and a third place finish in the Camry Bracket. A lot of this had to do with the skillful play of Olivia Bennett. In the opening round of the tournament against a talented Putnam, Bennett put up a massive 22 point performance to help lead the Cougars to a huge first-round win over the Kingsmen. She has been a leader for the Cougars all season-long even as just a sophomore and it will be fun to continue to watch her development.
The Portland State commit continued to show why she is one of the best players in the state at the tournament this past week. The Foxes had a great showing as they had a win over Wilsonville, followed by a close loss to South Medford, and then a hard-fought victory over West Salem for a third-place finish in the Tundra bracket. Brown was consistently dominant with stat-lines like 20 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, 4 steals, and two blocks against Wilsonville and 29 points, 3 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals versus South Medford. Big performances like these seem to be a regular occurrence for Brown.
Sara Schmerbach
Sara Schmerbach
On a South Medford roster that has multiple players with dazzling performances this season, Schmerbach made a statement this past week for herself in Salem. In the massive win over Silverton, Schmerbach not only led the Panthers with 23 points, but also hit the massive three to take a 6-point lead and seal the game with a under a minute to go. The long guard has been a consistent force for South Medford the past couple of years and they will continue to need big performances like this out of her in big games later on this season.
Carly Skogstad Carly Skogstad 5'7" | CG Sprague | 2026 State OR
Carly Skogstad Carly Skogstad 5'7" | CG Sprague | 2026 State OR
Skogstad was showing folks at the Capitol City Classic why she is one of the best sophomores in the state. Already a captain for her Sprague squad, Skogstad shows immense maturity in her leadership role for her age, as she is not afraid to step up to the plate against big opponents. She had 10 points, 5 assists, and 2 steals against Grants Pass in the opening round, 14 points versus Putnam — including three 3-pointers — and most impressive of all, she had a monster night in the win over St. Mary’s, putting up 27 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Undoubtedly, we will only continue to see Skogstad get better and better with over half of her career still ahead of her.
