Flint had an outstanding performance in the win over Kent City. While her winning shot was the highlight of the night, she played a great all-around game, scoring eight points and grabbing seven rebounds. Her maturity on the court as a freshman is impressive, and I am excited to see her play for the next four years. Kenowa has a bright future ahead with players like her on the team.
Holman was the most athletic player on the floor. Her combination of speed, strength, and jumping ability is off the charts! And she showed that by getting a monster block on a much taller player that has committed to play Division 1 basketball. She threaded the needle on her pass to Flint for the winning shot, and her passing skills have probably been getting overlooked because of other amazing things she does on the court. She finished the night with eight points, six rebounds, and multiple assists and steals. She was my choice as a breakout player, and she showed me that I made an excellent choice.
During the game, Marsiglia was assigned the challenging task of guarding Kent City’s best player, and she managed to do it most of the night. She played well overall, scoring nine points, making five steals, grabbing four rebounds, and delivering one impressive block. However, with 7:13 remaining in the fourth quarter, she fouled out of the game, and had to cheer her team from the bench as they went on to secure the victory.
Geers had a remarkable performance for her Kent City team, scoring 26 points and grabbing 15 rebounds, resulting in a double-double. She made 8 out of 17 shots from the floor and converted 9 of 13 free-throws. As an Indiana Purdue Fort Wayne commit, she needs to keep up the outstanding performance and involve her teammates to help Kent City return to their winning ways.
Freeland had an impressive debut as a Freshman. She scored 13 points, grabbed five rebounds, and provided three assists throughout the game. In the third quarter, she gave her team a much-needed boost by scoring two consecutive baskets, leading them to a 10-point lead going into the final quarter. Her performance suggests that she will be a scoring threat for Kent City this season, and we can expect her to have a successful freshman year.
Laynee Hoffman also scored for Kent City knocking down two 3-pointers
Freshman Ruby Gustinis scored a huge 3-pointer for Kenowa in the 4th quarter on the way to their comeback.
Senior Arena Guilarte scored the first five points in the game for Kenowa and finished with eight points on the night.
Junior Ella Thayer had a huge steal for Kenowa in the 4th quarter and was fouled in the process and knocked down 1-2 of her free-throws.
Kenowa used a balanced scoring attack with seven players in the scoring column.
