LBI picked the perfect location to use with Livonia Churchill Fieldhouse offering two gyms with three full courts and wall-to-wall chairs for spectators in attendance. College coaches D1-JUCO showed up to watch games and interact with targeted athletes; what an outstanding day of basketball! This segment includes teams that impressed me the most during my time at the Mega today.
Bloomfield Hills Marian
The Marian Mustangs finished the day 3-0 thanks to their outstanding ball movement, inside post players, infectious team energy, and ability to force opponents to take challenging shots. Marian had many prospects who looked great on the court today and their unselfish style of sharing the basketball led to a successful team performance and an impressive string of victories. Here are the players who shined bright for the Mustangs:
Abby Landa Abby Landa SG Marian | 2024 State MI
Abby Landa Abby Landa SG Marian | 2024 State MI
Abby Landa Abby Landa SG Marian | 2024 State MI (2024) was a key contributor for Marian at the Mega Scrimmage. She used her court vision and outside shooting to help lead the way for the Mustangs. Abby drained MANY 3’s and her ability to stretch the defense with her cross court passing and assists in transition were a vital part to the Mustangs success.
Mckenzie Swanson Mckenzie Swanson 6’3″ | PF Bloomfield Hills Marian | 2024 State MI dominated at all three levels for Marian at the LBI Mega Scrimmage. She finished contested floaters all day around the rim from whatever angle was needed to score: with or without the backboard. Mckenzie gained the advantage facing up or backing down defenders in the pain; her rebounding and inside presence led the way for the Mustangs.
Molly was deadly from beyond the arc for the Mustangs at the Mega Scrimmage, but she also showed she can win one on one battles to score inside. She was on fire hitting 3’s all over the floor and demonstrated great poise handling the ball under pressure.
Highlights
Mack Reid did not show any Freshman jitters at the Mega Scrimmage today. She handled the ball with poise and continually passed teammates open to keep the offense moving. Mack finished contested floaters and finishes using effective drives and footwork.
West Bloomfield
The Lakers had an unbelievable array of talent, athleticism, and skill to watch at the Mega Scrimmage. They played outstanding team basketball on both ends of the court and their team chemistry was evident from the opening tip. Their relentless pursuit of the ball on both ends and high energy set them apart. The Davis twins showed exactly why they are the top D1 prospects in the state, dominating the field with spectacular offensive/defensive plays; West Bloomfield is a team I expect to see again at the Breslin next spring. Here are two more Lakers who made big impacts during my time watching Saturday.
Kendall Hendrix Kendall Hendrix SF West Bloomfield | 2024 State MI was completely unstoppable at the Mega Scrimmage Saturday. She scored contested finishes at will in transition and drained 3’s from outside. Kendall was a leading offensive contributor for the Lakers who has the rare ability to drive full speed and still finish under control. Her eurosteps and spin dribbles were impossible for defenders to guard.
Destiny Washington Destiny Washington 5’6″ | PG West Bloomfield | 2024 State MI forced turnovers with her ball pressure, she scored inside and outside for the Lakers. She impressed with her court vision and defensive tenacity, which contributed greatly to the Lakers success Saturday. Destiny is a court general who can score, distribute, and defend with equal effectiveness.
