Continue ReadingI’ve been out of the loop for a little while. First due to being under the weather and not able to get in the gym and then the holidays came and so did the in-laws. So, now that I have time to breath and catch-up, I figured I’d take a look back at what was happening on my social media this last week or so. A lot of players have used the holiday break to upload recaps of their season thus far and it’s a great time for me to do some evaluations!
Marya Southerland
Marya Southerland
It’s always great to “find” a senior that I didn’t have ranked that should have been. Thanks to Marya for tagging me in a tweet way back on December 12. She is a very talented player who should most definitely be on your radar, coaches. A long, tall player that moves very well, this particular video is an incredible reel of everything that Marya can do. She’s tough inside, gets a lot of And-1’s and makes the free throws. She can shoot the three and does a great job of working off the ball to get her shot. She shows in the video that she can also create her own shot with some silky handles and twitchy quickness. She already holds an offer from Oklahoma City University for good reason. She excels in nearly every aspect of the game and, trust me, you’re not going to want to sleep on this prospect like I did if you’re a head coach. She’s gonna win somebody some games!
Junior Callie Wilson Callie Wilson 5’4″ | PG Sperry | 2025 State OK had a Player of the Game performance for Sperry back on December 13th when they defeated Cushing by a score of 53-17. She had 15 points to go along with four rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Callie epitomizes a “heart & hustle” player. Every time that I’ve seen her play, she’s all out, all the time and an absolute joy to watch. She is quick and fast and has the handles to hold her own against even the best defenders. Callie also has a lightning quick release that she uses to get her three-point shot off before defenders have a chance to react. She won’t ever be the tallest player on the court, but she will have a lot more Player of the Game performances. It’s inevitable. She works hard at her craft and deserves a look from coaches at the next level.
Highlights
Annabel Crawford
Annabel Crawford
I’ve had a lot of people reach out about “the twins,” Annabel and her sister Brynli. The comparisons to the Paris twins are going to be inevitable with these two, despite the fact that they’re only in the seventh grade. They are big, strong, and tall, yet they move around the court fluidly and quickly. Annabel is a willing passer and has some highlight reel dishes on her resume. She can also hit the three. Taller than their peers at this age, it looks like both twins will likely end up at the size of “bigs” by the time they take the court for the Titans in high school. Considering the all-around offensive skill set that Annabel shows already, that is a very scary proposition. Look for her to be a true inside/outside threat in a few years. With continued training, there’s no telling how high her stock will rise.
Brynli Crawford
Brynli Crawford
The other half of the dynamic duo is Brynli who has a lot of the same offensive skills as Annabel, but looks to be slightly more ferocious on the defensive end. She gets up and down the court very well, in fact, both players do. One favorite video sees Brynli sprint back on defense on a fast break and Mutombo a shot into the wall as her opponent crashes to the floor. Brynli shows an advanced offensive arsenal and very good footwork down low to finish consistently in the paint. Of course, she can also step out and shoot it. Both twins work hard in the gym with their team and during individual coaching and it looks like we are going to have two very talented prospects on our hands!
Zoie Johnson
Zoie Johnson
Another part of the undefeated Carl Albert seventh grade squad is Zoie Johnson, a lightning fast guard who causes havoc on the defensive end with her quick feet and even quicker hands. You better bring your lunch pail if you’re an opposing point guard trying to bring the ball up the court against this young lady. It ain’t gonna be fun. Add in the fact that she can blow by you with silky handles and an explosive first step on the offensive end and you’ve got one really well-rounded guard. Step up and guard her better or double team her? Not an issue. She dishes sweet passes to any number of offensive weapons scattered around the court, including the Crawford twins. If you want a glimpse at the future of Oklahoma Girls’ Basketball, you need to catch this Carl Albert Middle School team in action this season!
Cayman Pittman
Cayman Pittman
I told you all about Cayman after the Madill Winter Classic and I’m back to say that she hasn’t stopped doing any of the great things that I saw her doing down in Madill. She is an absolute double-double machine. She is killing it from long range, shooting 50% from three in this particular game back on the 12th. On the season she is shooting 46% from long range. Add in the fact that she is a dedicated defender, a solid ball handler, and a team leader, and you have a prospect that absolutely should not be overlooked. It would be a shame for a player this good to not be on someone’s roster come next season!
