Continue ReadingBombs away! That has always been the modus operandi for senior Laura Hauge Laura Hauge 5'9" | SG St. Croix Lutheran | 2024 State MN of St. Croix Lutheran, who has been wowing us with her long-distance shooting ability for the better part of six seasons now. That’s why the top 10 senior leads the way this time around as we recap the various happenings and achievements of the Week That Was #4, a seven-day period that saw records fall and players soar.
Not only did Hauge keep on bombing for the Crusaders, she became the all-time leading three-point shooter in Minnesota girls basketball history. Yes – the most threes by any player ever. Laura did it on Tuesday with her third triple of the game against the Trinity School from Eagan on the way to a 26-point performance in which she also had 6 assists, 3 rebounds and 4 steals. The previous record for career three-pointers was 458 held by the great Marissa Janning of Watertown-Mayer, who set it in 2012 before going on to an elite college career at Creighton University.
Pictured above with her mom and dad, the University of St. Thomas commit last winter hit the 2,000-career points mark and became the all-time leading scorer in St. Croix Lutheran history. She followed up her record-setting performance with six more triples on Friday against Hill-Murray in a season-high 33-point performance. Hauge is averaging nearly 25 points per game on the season.
OK, buckle up because we’ve got a ton of other good stuff for your reading pleasure.
INDIVIDUAL STANDOUTS
Potential Breakout Players of the Year
It’s still early in the high school season, but if you are looking for candidates for the Prep Girls Hoops Breakout Player of the Year, you might want to look to New Prague where junior Katherine Boulanger Katherine Boulanger 5'11" | SF New Prague | 2025 State MN is continuing her impressive rise in the basketball consciousness while leading the Trojans to a record of 6-1. Boulanger is averaging 22.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.5 steals per game while shooting 62% from the field, 44% from three-point range and 79% at the line. Katie, who rose to #72 this fall in our PGH Class of 2025 rankings, is a terrific college prospect, most likely at the Division 2 level.
Another candidate for Breakout Player of the Year has to be junior Chloe Nuss Chloe Nuss 5'10" | SG Totino-Grace | 2025 State MN of Totino-Grace. She burst out of the gate with outstanding performances at the Twin Cities Thanksgiving Tip Off (click here to read about those exploits) and has continued in the same vein over the past three weeks. Nuss had a season-high 34-point game in a 64-60 win over Spring Lake Park on Wednesday and is averaging over 23 ppg for the 7-0 Eagles.
Rebounders
When the Minnesota Lynx were winning all those WNBA championships it was Lindsay Whalen, Seimone Augustus and Maya Moore who garnered most of the headlines. Down in the trenches, however, it was Rebecca Brunson doing the dirty work. Brunson’s rebounding was absolutely crucial to the team’s success. In the spirit of the one they call ‘BB’ we salute the rebounders who have been pounding the glass through the first four weeks of the season.
Hallie Greer Hallie Greer 6'0" | SF Southwest Christian | 2024 State MN – The lengthy forward started out her career in Minnetonka where the roster is deep and the competition for playing time is fierce. Since moving to Southwest Christian in Chaska, Greer has blossomed. She is currently averaging 11 rebounds per game for the Stars who are 4-1. A top 150 prospect in the class of 2025, Greer had 14 boards vs Mounds Park Academy, 14 more against Annandale and 13 at Minneapolis North. At 6-feet and skilled, Hallie is going to be a great get for whoever signs her at the next level.
Ciara Seifert Ciara Seifert 6'1" | PF Rochester John Marshall | 2025 State MN – The 6’2 junior from Rochester John Marshall is top 5 in the state in rebounding according to available numbers and is a big reason why the Rockets are 6-1 on the season. Ranked just outside the top 100 in the class of 2025, Seifert had a 16-point, 17-rebound game against Mankato West. Meanwhile Ciara’s Southern Minnesota Fury AAU teammate Miranda Palmby Miranda Palmby 6'1" | PF Dover-Eyota | 2025 State MN has been doing likewise. The forward from Dover-Eyota pulled down 21 rebounds on Friday against Plainview-Elgin-Millville.
Ella Stoskopf Ella Stoskopf 5'10" | PF Kasson-Mantorville | 2025 State MN – The big power forward from Kasson-Mantorville has also been a beast on the boards so far this season. Ella has recorded double-doubles in four consecutive games. During week #4, Stoskopf had 18 points and 13 rebounds against Pine Island and 18 and 12 rebounds versus Hastings. The 5’11 post is a junior with plenty of room for growth.
Other notable performances
Kylie Waytashek Kylie Waytashek 6'2" | PF Royalton | 2024 State MN – The 6’2 power forward from Royalton can battle down low with the best of them, but she can also fire it from distance. Kylie proved that again in week #4 when she set a school record for most triples in a game with 8 three-pointers against Mora, including 7 in the first half. She scored 29 points in total. Just 24 hours later, Waytashek did it again with 8 more buckets from beyond the arc and 29 points. Ranked #33 in the senior class, Kylie has committed to D1 Valparaiso in Indiana.
Morgan Mathiowetz Morgan Mathiowetz 5'6" | PG Sleepy Eye St. Mary's | 2027 State MN – The crafty point guard from Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s continues to put up the kind of numbers that earned her sister Madi a scholarship at South Dakota State as Morgan proves that she, too, is a strong candidate for D1. In week #4 against Cedar-Mountain, the 2027 Top 10 prospect had 41 points, 11 rebounds and 3 steals. She’s averaging just a shade under 30 points per game while shooting a remarkable 59%
Jadyn Kor Jadyn Kor 5'9" | CG Pipestone | 2026 State MN – The versatile guard/wing from Pipestone rewrote the school record books with 42 points (and 11 rebounds) on Friday in a 92-86 barnburner against St. James. Kor, who is also a quality defender, plays AAU for Sanford Sports out of Sioux Falls and is ranked #75 in Minnesota’s Class of 2026. Another top performer for Pipestone to date is 8th grade guard Amyra Mahik, who impressed us at the Fall Exclusive in October. She had a 22-point game against Jackson County Central and on Friday put up 20 more against St. James.
Kenna Henning Kenna Henning 5'7" | SG Heritage Christian Academy | 2026 State MN – The 5’8 sophomore from Heritage Christian Academy scored 71 points this week in three contests. On Tuesday Henning had a career-high 30 points and 12 rebounds against St. Paul Academy. She followed that on Friday with another 21 and 10 performance against PACT and on Saturday she had 20 more points against Wabasha-Kellogg.
Juliette Matheis – The 5’11 power forward from Southland High School is a player we need to see more of. On Thursday against Houston, the 2026 big recorded another double-double with 23 points and 16 rebounds. Juliette plays AAU for Southern Minnesota Fury and is a three-sport athlete for the Rebels. Southland is located in Adams, about 5 miles north of the Iowa border.
Elsa Ratzlaff – The 2028 guard from Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in Fergus Falls put up 7 triples on Thursday against Wheaton-Herman-Norcross for 29 points. She was our Newcomer of the Week exactly 12 months ago and continues to make a name for herself. Ditto for her teammate Ella Knutson Ella Knutson 5'8" | SG Hillcrest Lutheran | 2026 State MN , who entered our radar this summer with Inspired Athletics. Knutson had a triple-double in week #3 against Brandon-Evansville with 31 points, 15 rebounds and 10 steals.
Olivia Bungum Olivia Bungum 5'8" | SG United South Central | 2027 State MN – Last week we told you about the freshman from United South Central in Wells. This week the Minnesota Rise guard made headlines again by setting a school record for most three-pointers in a game. Bungum went 7-for-13 from beyond the arc against Bethlehem Academy of Faribault.
The usual suspects
There are some star performers who manage to make it into our recap pretty much every week. One player who didn’t light it up this week is 8th grader Chloe Johnson Chloe Johnson 5'11" | PG Duluth Marshall | 2028 MN of Duluth Marshall, but only because the Hilltoppers did not play a game. Here’s what some of the other regulars did in week #4.
Maddyn Greenway Maddyn Greenway 5'8" | PG Providence Academy | 2026 State MN – After being held to just 16 points against Hill-Murray earlier in the week, the top player in Minnesota’s class of 2026 put up 40 on Friday in a thrilling victory at Lakeville North. Maddyn is averaging over 34 points per game for Providence Academy, which boasts a perfect 8-0 record.
Tori Oehrlein Tori Oehrlein 5'10" | CG Crosby-Ironton | 2026 State MN – The sophomore from Crosby-Ironton, ranked 2nd among the 2026s, had a pair of eye-popping performances for the now 9-0 Rangers. On Tuesday against Wadena-Deer Creek the 5’11 guard had a triple-double with 29 points, 18 rebounds and 12 assists. Two days later In a win over Pierz, Tori had 36 points and 15 rebounds. She’s averaging 35 points and 15 boards per game.
Addison Mack Addison Mack 5'9" | PG Minnehaha Academy | 2025 State MN – Another one of our regulars, the uber-skilled point guard from Minnehaha Academy showed once again why she is a top 5 prospect in Minnesota’s Class of 2025. On Tuesday against Becker, Addi posted 32 points and added 9 assists. On Friday versus St. Louis Park she scored 34 points and had 9 more assists. Mack is averaging nearly 31 ppg for the 9-0 Redhawks.
Jordan Zubich Jordan Zubich 5'11" | SG Mountain Iron-Buhl | 2024 State MN – Last but certainly not least is another of our usual suspects, the Mountain Iron-Buhl senior who has committed to North Carolina. Jordan had a pair of 30-point games last week with 5 assists against Wheaton-Herman-Norcross and 8 assists versus South Ridge.
MORE MILESTONES
Tresa Baumgard Tresa Baumgard 6'0" | PF Chisholm | 2024 State MN – The forward from Chisholm reached some truly rarified air on Monday when she scored 56-points in a game against Littlefork-Big Falls, one of the best individual offensive performances of all time. Even better, the MSU-Moorhead commit passed 2,000 career points as a result. Tresa is ranked 37th in the Class of 2024.
Willow Thiel Willow Thiel 5'11" | PF Perham | 2024 State MN – The forward from Perham became her school’s all-time leading scorer in a game on Tuesday against Hawley. She broke the previous record of 1,563 set by Katrina Moenkedick and has another 20 or more games to add to that total before she heads off to Minnesota-Crookston next fall. Ranked in the Top 50, the senior forward is averaging 28 points and 12 rebounds per game for the Yellowjackets.
At least nine players topped the 1,000-career points mark this past week.
Jordan Ode Jordan Ode 5'11" | CG Maple Grove | 2025 State MN – The junior from Maple Grove reached 1,000 on Tuesday with a 25-point performance in a win over previously undefeated Eden Prairie. Jordan is top 3 in the Class of 2025 and has already committed to Michigan State.
Vienna Murray Vienna Murray 6'0" | SG East Ridge | 2026 State MN – The top 10 sophomore spent the first three years of her high school career at Tartan where she had to carry the load in every way. That enabled her to put up a ton of points, of course. Now at East Ridge in Woodbury, Murray reached the 1,000-point milestone as a sophomore in week #4.
Rylie Cother Rylie Cother 5'9" | CG Jackson Cty Central | 2025 State MN – The junior from Jackson County Central has been on fire so far this winter and last week she became the 9th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points. She did it in a 71-61 win over Luverne. Cother is ranked #50 in the Class of 2025.
Brandi Washington Brandi Washington 5'5" | CG Fridley | 2025 State MN – The diminutive point guard from Fridley is known as much for her distribution as her scoring, but Washington can definitely find the net, too. The 54th rated junior in Minnesota reached 1,000 career points on Friday night in a win over Richfield. She’s averaging 18 ppg.
Ja’Kahla Craft Ja’Kahla Craft 5'9" | CG STMA | 2024 State MN – The senior guard last week became the 13th player in the storied history of the St. Michael-Albertville Knights to reach the 1,000-points milestone. Craft was the X-factor in STMA’s Class 4A state championship last spring and is leading the team in scoring at nearly 25 ppg. If my math is correct, the Seton Hall commit might post another 500 points before her high school career is done.
Makadyn Gust Makadyn Gust 5'8" | CG St. Charles | 2024 State MN – Earlier this year the senior from St. Charles saw her career come to an end when she suffered a torn ACL. This week Gust was inserted into the lineup against Dover-Eyota for one play so she could reach the 1,000-career points mark, a nice moment for everyone involved.
Jenna Buer Jenna Buer 5'9" | SG Holy Angels | 2024 State MN – One of the best three-point bombers around, the senior from the Academy of Holy Angels has been consistently productive throughout her high school career. In a win over Bloomington Kennedy on Wednesday, Buer became the 16th player in Holy Angels program history to reach 1,000 carrer points.
Macy Birkholz Macy Birkholz 5'5" | CG Mankato East | 2024 State MN – One of the most competitive players among Minnesota seniors, the feisty guard from Mankato East is super quick and very athletic. She can also score the basketball as evidenced by the 1,000-career points celebration in week #4. Birkholz is rated #56 in the Class of 2024 and is heading for D2 Wayne State.
Faith Nielsen – Our final 1,000-point achiever of the week is the senior from New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva. Nielsen has plenty of range and is averaging over 14 points per game. NRHEG is the program that gave us the great Carly Wagner, who starred at the University of Minnesota and was drafted into the WNBA by the Minnesota Lynx. Coached by Onika Peterson, the Panthers are 6-1 on the season.
If we missed someone please let us know either via email (gmachoops@gmail.com) or via direct message on Twitter (@gmachoops) and we will add them to the list next week.
WHAT WE WATCHED
After watching Lakeville North lay an 88-41 beating on Eagan Tuesday, the Panthers found themselves in a battle with Providence Academy on Friday night. The pace and intensity on Friday was a whole different deal than Tuesday. The contest was a slugfest that came down to the wire before the Lions prevailed 78-75 behind a 40-point performance from Maddyn Greenway Maddyn Greenway 5'8" | PG Providence Academy | 2026 State MN . That was the game of the week from our viewpoint.
The other contest we really enjoyed was Jordan’s win over Watertown-Mayer, a game that W-M dominated early before and 18-0 Jordan run sparked by three triples from Savannah Borowicz Savannah Borowicz 5'8" | SG Jordan | 2025 State MN late in the first half altered the course of events. In the second half, the Jaguars made it obvious why their record is now 8-0 as they battled to a 59-48 win. Borowicz finished with 19 points while sophomore standout Morgan Staloch Morgan Staloch 6'0" | PF Jordan | 2026 State MN had 17.
Throughout the week we also watched Sleepy Eye at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s, Goodhue at Stewartville, and Two Rivers at Minneapolis Southwest, along with portions of a dozen other games. Wednesday was a live college day with Minnesota hosting Grambling State in the morning and the return of Ronnie Porter to St. Paul as Wisconsin scored a win at St. Thomas,
