Continue ReadingOn Saturday, January 6th, the Basha Bears visited the Perry Pumas in the battle of Val Vista. Perry, who has been playing with only part of their roster the first half of the season, is finally at full strength, and they are beginning to play up to their potential.
In this matchup, they were looking to avenge an early season loss to the young Bears, who have been playing very well this season. In this one, Perry got the better of Basha, winning 89-46. This game was filled with talented players on both sides.
Here, I take a look at some of the standouts from this matchup.

Perry
The Montana transplant seems to get more comfortable in her new environment every time I see her. Versatility seems to be her forte, and in this game, her outside shooting was on display. During one stretch, she hit 3s on three consecutive trips up the court in the 3rd quarter. She has a smoothness to her game that makes it seem easy at times.

Ivy showed why she is one of the best point guards in the state from the opening tipoff. She applied pressure on the opposing defense with her speed by attacking the rim often. This either resulted in her own baskets or easy assists to open teammates.
Grace Beckler

Beckler did all she could to keep the Bears close with her energy and length. She plays taller than her listed height. She had a near-double double and gave her team extra possessions by crashing the offensive boards.
Bella Burcar

Burcar is another transfer who seems to get more comfortable in her new situation. Known more for her shooting, Bella has been showing off her all-around game more of late. She’s showing that she is also a good passer and rebounder from her position. She’s also taken on more of a leadership role. She is one of the better ’26 players in the state.

The athletic guard showed why she is a problem for opponents on both ends of the court. On offense she showed her burst of the dribble and ability to finish over defenders. On defense, her quick hands and length disrupted the opposing offense all game. Henry is one of the top sophomores on the West Coast.

Even though Rylie was limited due to an injury, her outside shot was on display. She shoots it with such confidence that you begin to think that her shots will always go in. Her off-the-dribble game is steadily improving, and that will make her even more dangerous.
