With over a dozen high major prospects competing, and perhaps 40 more legitimate candidates for Division 1 college basketball on hand, the annual Breakdown Granite City Classic is one of the biggest and best tournaments in the country. We were parked courtside for the weekend at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, the primary site for girls games. From Friday morning through Saturday night Ally McGinnis and I watched 22 hours of basketball and 14 complete contests. Cited below are some high-major players who delivered at Granite City.
Liv McGill Liv McGill 5'7" | CG Hopkins | 2024 State MN – 2024 guard, Hopkins (Florida)
The Friday night showdown between Hopkins and Providence Academy was epic. Performing in front of a packed gymnasium, McGill was dominant early as her three consecutive triples to end the half staked the Royals to a midway lead. When the Lions staged a valiant comeback in the second half, Liv took over again to secure the win finishing with 36 points. On Saturday, she followed that up with another excellent performance in a win over Minot, ND. The Florida commit is one of the country’s best guards.
Maddyn Greenway Maddyn Greenway 5'8" | PG Providence Academy | 2026 State MN – 2026 guard, Providence Academy
The two-time defending Class A champions are a force. In reality, however, as Greenway goes so go the Lions. She was certainly going this weekend. Trailing Hopkins by 20 on Friday night, Maddyn went on a rampage and willed her team back to even. She had 32 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals. On Saturday, the top prospect in Minnesota’s Class of 2026 was on her game again with 26 points against Duluth Marshall. Greenway is one of the country’s most dynamic performers.
Aaliyah Crump Aaliyah Crump 6'1" | SF Minnetonka | 2025 State MN – 2025 forward Minnetonka
Crump came out flying on Saturday morning against Stewartville, and there wasn’t a darn thing the talented Tigers could do to stop her. With her usual combination of speed, skill, grace and athleticism, the 6’1 guard/wing was dominant. By halftime she already had 23 points and finished with the easiest 31 you’ll see. Aaliyah is a top 5 prospect nationally among the 2025s, #1 in Minnesota. She leads the 9-0 Skippers at 27 points per game and will compete for Team USA again in 2024.
LeeLee Bell – 2026 forward, Minot ND
We’ve seen what Bell can do during AAU competition on behalf of Minnesota Stars Hill. This was our first opportunity to see her live at the varsity level and she did not disappoint. The #1 player in North Dakota is a unique talent, a 6’3 giant with a power forward’s build and guard-like skills. She scored 20 points against Wayzata on Friday and followed that up with 28 more on Saturday versus Hopkins. Bell dominated down low and made shots from distance with a silky smooth stroke. She is the real deal and holds the high-major offers to prove it.
Chloe Johnson Chloe Johnson 5'11" | PG Duluth Marshall | 2028 MN – 2028 guard, Duluth Marshall
It was not a great weekend for the Marshall Hilltoppers. After holding a solid lead Friday against Becker, they dropped a heartbreaking 56-55 decision. On Saturday, they were steamrolled by Providence Academy. Johnson, on the other hand, was outstanding as usual, scoring 56% of her team’s points and wowing the college coaches on hand with her elite-level potential. The #1 prospect in the Class of 2028 scored 61 points and led Marshall in rebounding, assists, steals and blocks.
Jordan Ode Jordan Ode 5'11" | CG Maple Grove | 2025 State MN – 2025 guard Maple Grove (Michigan State)
The Crimson suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday, falling 56-51 to a resurgent Prior Lake squad. Ode has one of the highest-revving motors in Minnesota and, as per usual, she did everything humanly possible to try and will her team to victory. It wasn’t quite enough. Jordan, who is averaging 21 points per game, is one of the state’s most complete players. Ranked #3 in the Class of 2025, Ode is making a strong case to move up. She has already committed to Michigan State.
Tori Oehrlein Tori Oehrlein 5'10" | CG Crosby-Ironton | 2026 State MN – 2026 guard, Crosby-Ironton
The Rangers looked a little bit sluggish Saturday morning in an 83-64 loss to Goodhue, but Tori definitely did not. She carried her team with 37 points. On Friday, Oehrlein had 42 in a three-point loss to top-ranked Albany, shooting better than 50% from the field, 100% at the free throw line. It’s a toss-up in our opinion between Oehrlein and Greenway for top prospect among the 2026s. She is an elite passer, standout shooter, high-level defender and has a basketball IQ that is off the charts.
