Shields exploded for 32 points in a win over Sullivan East on Monday. The sophomore sensation has exploded onto the scene after not seeing the floor much as a freshman. She scored 19 points in the first 16 minutes of action (including four made 3’s). She is, without a doubt, a division 1 talent that is a star in the making for Elizabethton.
Highlights
Marlee Mathena
Marlee Mathena
I really like Mathena! She was big in the paint, and went off for 8 first half points. She finished with 16 points, 8 rebounds, and 4 blocks. She’s a nice tandem with Shields when they both are rolling. She’s a nice defender and rebounder as well.
Jamira Smalls
Jamira Smalls
Wow! We love a Twin Towers-and that’s what Elizabethton has when they put Mathena and Smalls on the floor! Smalls finished with 11 points and 6 rebounds. She too is terrific defensively, and looking into the future–the ’25 duo of Shields and Smalls is nice!
Morristown East moved to 16-5 on the year with a win on Monday. Sullivan continues to be the epitome of a well rounded PG as she’s averaging 13.5 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks. She’s one of the best passers in the state, and is always amongst the leaders in assists. She contributes on both ends of the floor, doesn’t care whether or not she scores, and simpy impacts winning! Love watching this kid play!
Ella Wampler
Ella Wampler
The 1-2 punch of Wampler and Sullivan is really tough. Wampler led all scorers with 20 on the night. She’s averaging 13 points and 6 rebounds. She’s a diverse, inside/out player that can score from multiple places around the floor. She can be a matchup nightmare depending on the opponent. Nice talent!
