Gainesville Freshman
Gainesville’s freshmen deserve a shoutout this week, and truthfully, they have exceeded my expectations all year.

started her week with a three-point shooting clinic against Osbourn. She went 5/7 and finished with 15 points. Grace has been great all year and has done well as a spot-up shooter. Then, the other outstanding Gainesville Freshman,

, had two excellent games. On Tuesday, Laylani had 12 in a low-scoring game Vs. Freedom, where almost all of Gainesville’s points came from three people. Then, on Friday against Unity Reed, Leylani scored as many points as Unity Reed did, a total of 20. Laylani and Grace are a big reason Gainesville is as good as they are.
Potomac School had a really nice week, picking up three wins against three good teams. Freshman guard Sabrina Anderson Sabrina Anderson 5’8″ | PG Potomac School | 2027 State VA has been excellent all year and led her team in scoring twice this week. Sabrina played a couple of really complete games. She had a terrific game on both ends against Georgetown Visitation, finishing with 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 steals in a 21-point win. Then she had 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals in a 13-point over of St. Andrews Episcopal. Sabrina is having as good of a freshman season as people hoped, and this Potomac School squad is loaded.
Laila Tull Laila Tull 5’8″ | CG South County | 2026 State VA stood out to me back to back weeks, and she has been paramount to the success of a young South County team. On Wednesday, Laila had a massive game in a competitive win over a solid West Potomac team. Laila finished with 29 points in an 8-point home victory. South County went 2-0 on the week, but Laila’s performance on Wednesday was one of the better ones.

Loudoun Valley was one of the teams I had my eye on this year because of the amount of production they had returning. They’ve been really good, and a big part has been the play of Elizabeth Thornton Elizabeth Thornton 6’2″ | C Loudoun Valley | 2025 VA . Elizabeth is huge to what Loudoun Valley does on both ends with her length and ability to move. Elizabeth opened the week up, going for 20 against Dominion in a 21-point Victory for Valley. Then, in a rout against Rock Ridge, Elizabeth almost doubled Rock Ridge’s points by going for 25. Elizabeth had a great week, and this Loudoun Valley team is one to watch.
Sofia Caraus Sofia Caraus 5’9″ | SG Centreville | 2026 State VA led Centreville in scoring in both of their games this week. Centreville opened their week with a hard-fought one-point win over an excellent Oakton team. Sofia had 17 points and led all scorers in that Oakton win. Then, on Friday, in a nice 20-point win over James Madison, Sofia had 16. Sofia knocked down threes all week and showed why she is such a pivotal piece to a top-20 team in the state.
