The high upside freshman prospect’s activity level was off the charts from the jump. She’s tall, has a big wingspan and is very mobile for her height. She was active on the offensive glass in particular, but at the start the scoring production wasn’t there. But as the game progressed, she started finishing her putback opportunities and converting post ups into points.
By the time the second half rolled around, Brown was in a full rhythm and was mixing in dynamic driving to her post scoring. Her outstanding motor never stopped, as evident by an impressive sequence in the fourth that helped close the book on the Lady Tigers’ win. She closed out on a corner three attempt, then was the first player down the court for either team. A great example of how hard work can lead to easy points.
Highlights
When the Lady Tigers’ offense was struggling to find it’s rhythm early, the senior chipped in with big threes and other experienced plays. For example; even though she was one of the smaller players on the court, she crashed weakside to grab a board and get a putback. There was an early indication of strong theme of Whiteley being in the right place at the right time, as similar occurrences happened with steals and other loose balls. Late in the game, she consistently got to the free throw line to help maintain Fort Gibson’s edge. Her steady play from the lead guard spot is a great compliment to her team’s talented forwards.
The junior joined with Brown to give Fort Gibson a superior edge throughout on the glass and in the paint. From grabbing rebounds, protecting the rim with blocks and even showing some defensively versatility by her moving her feet well on some perimeter defensive reps, Stanley is a steady, grinder who can impact the game even when not scoring. The forward prospect did hit a triple and made more of an offensive impact in the second half.
Shieldknight was a consistent perimeter threat throughout the contest, as she rained in threes throughout the game as Wagoner’s top scoring threat. In the third quarter, she attempted to spark a rally with all out effort on the glass, getting on the floor for loose balls and more on the defensive end. It was easy to see why the senior is a NSU signee and with her combination of height, offensive skillset, and defensive grit, she has a bright future at the next level.
Brooklyn Austin
Brooklyn Austin
A strong utility player for Wagoner, while listed as a point guard she rebounds well and is scrappy like a forward. She can cover good ground on the defensive end, especially applying on the ball pressure. She caught the eye early as an unselfish and good passer, who operated in the high post against Fort’s zone. When needed too, Austin hit a three and got on the offensive glass as well.
