Teams are jockeying for position in the standings, venues are full, rivalries are at their peaks, and kids are battling it out possession by possession. This part of the year is so fun because every game matters. The holidays are over and kids are easing their way back on campus, however, the hoops season is reaching its prime time.
Last night around the state and in the mid-state (particularly for this article) we saw some real battles taking place on the hardwood. Young ladies game to hoop and more importantly they came to compete. You could tell that the stakes have been raised by the way ball clubs were carrying themselves. Talk about fun, this is when it gets good cause what happens matters and plays a huge part when it comes to district tournaments and postseason runs. This year will be full of unknowns because you never know who will finish hot.
Check out some Mid-State young ladies who had a hot Tuesday night for their ball club.
Bella Shepherd Bella Shepherd 5'6" | SG Lipscomb-Academy | 2026 State TN (So./G/ Lipscomb Academy)– She’s coming in hot. The sophomore sensation dropped 31 points against her rival Ensworth. She had five threes and when the Lady Tigers tried to run her off the line, she attacked the rim with confidence. Bella is the X factor for her ball club, the go-to girl. However, she gets her points sporadically, striking when her team needs a bucket. She can do it in volume, but she is a selfless leader who is team first. A fierce competitor who gives it all she has night in and night out.
Ella Ryan Ella Ryan 5'10" | PG Brentwood | 2025 State TN (Jr./G/ Brentwood)– The Rosie The Riveter of High School basketball, this young lady competes and does so much more. She dropped 30 for her team last night, however its the other things that stand out to me. She makes timely assists, she rebounds, she effectively communicates on each end of the floor, calling out screens (defensively) and putting her teammates in the correct spots. She is hungry and is always looking for ways to improve her game. A tremendous prospect who will be receiving even more D1 offers come this summer.
Imari Berry Imari Berry 5'10" | SG Clarksville | 2024 State TN (Sr./G/Clarksville)– The Clemson signee is hot and she keeps helping her team stack wins. One of the best (if not the best) ballplayers in the state. She had 25 points last night against Springfield, however she also eclipsed an immaculate milestone of scoring her 2,000th point. The long and lanky forward is impressive and she plays the game with ease. A hard working kid who can fill it up from all 3 levels. Look for her to take her club to where they left off last year because they have some unfinished business to attend to. Imari will be primed and ready to breakthrough this year and capture what she didn’t last year.
Cecilie Brandimore Cecilie Brandimore 6'3" | C Franklin | 2026 State TN (So./ C/ Franklin)– The post player was on point last night in their lost to Nolesville. She led the Lady Admirals in scoring, dropping 31 from the field. She was a beast in the paint, creating problems for Nolensville on the offensive end. She was also tough on the defensive end, blocking 5 shots and grabbing 16 boards. Though her team didn’t get the W, CB showed everyone in the gym whose boss. A hungry prospect who will continue to grow.
Abby Bryan Abby Bryan 5'10" | SF Lincoln County | 2025 State TN (Jr./G/ Lincoln Co.)– The junior guard is tough. I mean super tough. She can kill you from the arc, but can also utilize her size inside and exploit you down low. She dropped 25 last night in her club’s win over Columbia Central. That was a huge win for the LC program. What was even more impressive was the 8 boards AB got. They eliminated any second chance opportunities Columbia Central had. Last night was a fierce contest, however Abby and co. prevailed as they jumped up in the standings. Look for this kid to continue to make noise down the road and finish out the season strong.
