Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!
We try to spread the love with the players and prospect that we cover but sometimes, there is a player or two that just keep on putting up noteworthy numbers that need to be talked about. The most recent prospect being Macy Comito Macy Comito 5’10” | PG Carlisle | 2026 State IA and her First Round performance against ADM on Tuesday evening to move onto Round Two. Comito is a quick and fundamental PG, that has been grabbing the attention of D1 scouts at a consistent rate as of late. Her ability to create and score off the dribble is second-to-none and that’s not even mentioning her tenacious defense. On Wednesday night, Comito scored a school record 39 Points (15-26), 6 Rebounds, 2 Assists, and 4 Steals. In a contest that ended 55-53, you can see why each one of Comito’s stats were so important. Looking toward the future, Carlisle will have to go on the road on Saturday night to face off against Norwalk, with a shot to move onto and to compete for a spot at the State Tournament in a few weeks. It’s going to be a tough one but when you have a player like Comito on your team, you can never be counted out so I’m excited to see how this one unfolds.
Hannah Dunkin
Hannah Dunkin
The Knoxville Panthers are an interesting team that has a diverse group of players. On this roster there are only eight players that consistently see the floor and they range from all different grade levels. In their most recent contest on Wednesday evening, the Panthers put together a complete game and beat Perry High School by a final of 65-50. In their efforts, the player that stood out the most to myself and anyone else watching was Hannah Dunkin. Dunkin led her team in this contest in scoring with 24 Points, while also bringing in 4 Rebounds and dishing out 4 Assists. This put together quite the game for Dunkin but if this team wants to win in their next round matchup, their main producers are going to have to show up like this again. I think it is important to note that in this recent contest against Perry, two of this teams starters for Knoxville scored 47 of their 65 total points. Those players being Dunkin and Brittney Bacorn. As you can tell, if they want to keep on their journey and keep their season alive, both of these prospects are important in that “receipe for success.” They just need to keep their heads down and continue to push forward.
Reese Kuhlman
Reese Kuhlman
Whenever you hear about the Maquoketa Cardinals, you hear about their star-studded Sophomore Class but a player that does a great job of making herself available throughout a contest is Senior, Reese Kuhlman. Kuhlman is a Combo Guard, that brings a lot of positive play to the floor. In her teams First Round win against Clinton on Wednesday, Kuhlman ended with 16 Points on 8-12 shooting and 5 Assists. If you know anything about this group, you know that their top players are high level producers. When this group matches up with anyone, their opponents usually try to take away those two top options, leaving some open opportunities to everyone else on the floor. Kuhlman in those moments has done a great job of making herself open or available by coming to the ball and picking her spots wisely. Like every other team at this point, the play of everyone’s top players isn’t going to be enough to get to State in a bigger Class like 4A. Whoever has their entire team on the same page and has multiple prospects step up, is going to have the best chance to win moving forward and that applies here as well.
I don’t get the chance to see Adeeya Yanga Adeeya Yanga 6’0″ | PF Storm Lake | 2025 State IA and her Storm Lake team compete enough throughout the season, solely because of our locations and how their schedule usually plays out but that doesn’t change the fact that this group has put together a really nice season at 14-7 and they aren’t done just yet. In their First Round game on Wednesday night, the Tornados won against Sergeant Bluff-Luton by a final of 62-48. In this contest, the star player for the storm was their presence in the middle, Adeeya Yanga Adeeya Yanga 6’0″ | PF Storm Lake | 2025 State IA . Yanga recorded a double-double with 20 Points and 10 Rebounds in her efforts along with 2 Assists and 3 Blocks. Yanga’s game is consistent and efficient in the paint. She works relentlessly on both side of the basketball to make an impact each contest, even if she isn’t scoring at a high rate. In their Second Round matchup, the Tornado’s will travel to Bishop Heelan to face the powerhouse that is the Crusaders. It’s going to be a challenging game for the visitors in my opinion but I wouldn’t be surprised if Yanga put up a similar stat line to the other evening. She makes things happen and she has size, so I’m sure her presence will be known.
Makailyn Vander Waal
Makailyn Vander Waal
Makailyn Vander Waal of Sioux Center High School has been a player this season that her team can rely on and that didn’t change in their First Round matchup earlier this week. In a game against Spencer High School, that ended by a final of 64-39, Vander Waal scored 14 Points, raked in 7 Rebounds, and passed out 4 Assists in her teams victory. At 5’10, Vander Waal demonstrates some eye-opening moments. She makes quick decisions, adapts well in crunch time, and is someone that her team can always go too when the shot clock is ticking down. That has been the case all season long and is still the case as Sioux Central moves into Round Two of these Playoffs in a game where they will lace up against a top-ranking LeMars team. This game should be a battle. The Bulldogs will have the advantage and be favored at home but if Vander Waal and Sioux Center come to play, it could be a close game.
