First, let’s start with Sunbright vs Midway. What a game? The game was not decided in 4 quarters. We were blessed with an overtime period! Midway pulled out the win in Region 2 A 35-32.
Cawood had to battle tough defense for 4 quarters. She was finding open 3’s and knocking down her free throws in the first half. However, the second half led to more face guard defense, double teams, & at times, even more help defense! Kyleigh finished with 16 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, and 2 steals! Cawood continues to make winning plays and she continues to lead her team to victories. I loved when Kyleigh pulled down the offensive rebound and nailed a crucial free throw to give her team a 3 point lead and ultimately the win! Who doesn’t want a point guard that stays poised at all times? At one point, Midway was down. However, Kyleigh didn’t let that get to her. I know this young point guard would love to have a few turnovers back. However, Cawood impacts a game in so many ways. College coaches do not need to wait to offer Cawood! I’ll reiterate that Kyleigh Cawood Kyleigh Cawood 5’6″ | PG Midway | 2026 State TN can compete with the best of them! Congrats MVP, you deserved it!
Highlights
Every time I watch Armes, I find something new to like about her game! I’ve talked about the corner 3’s before and I’ve talked about her great shot blocking ability, AND I have also talked about her great size & length that she utilizes extremely well! However, I have not covered her ability to drive to the basket! Addie drove to the basket numerous times and made it look easy. She has a nice shot fake and understands exactly when to use it to get to the rim. I love the old-fashioned 3 point play that she completed too! Armes flirted with a double-double. She finished with 8 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals, and 5 blocks! This one is going to be a steal at the next level! She continues to get better in all aspects of her game!

Tatum Collier
Tatum Collier
Collier was a crucial player in the regional win! Tatum finished with 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals! I love how the young athlete has poured it on strong at the right time for this young Midway team! This young athlete has a promising future on the basketball court. If Tatum continues to work, you will see her name a lot more!
McKenna Smith
McKenna Smith
Despite the loss, Smith had an impressive game. Mckenna was able to knock down numerous outside shots. Smith played a good defensive game too. Shannon Freels and Smith both contributed big minutes for their team! Sunbright isn’t finished yet and I would not count this team out! This team plays great defense and if Smith and Freels can knock down the open shots, it will be a difference maker!
I also watched Heritage vs Signal Mountain. Heritage won Region 3 3A, 55-45. A few standouts are mentioned below:
Jay Coker
Jay Coker
Coker is truly a force to be reckoned with! Jay is a physical athlete that knows how to get to the rim, finish, and get to the line! Coker led her team in scoring with 18 points on the night. Heritage is truly a different team when Coker is on the floor! I love a tough player that loves to play with an old school physicality. Give me the athletes that will run through a brick wall for their team and coach! Coker is truly a tough talent!
Smyth stepped up and played phenomenal! Aleyah is a great two way player! I love a good defensive player and you will definitely find that in Smyth! A small glimpse into the game tonight: Game is tied 45 all in the 4th quarter, in less than 30 seconds, Aleyah attacks the basket and scores. That’s not all! The young athlete gets it done on the defensive end by getting a steal and drawing a foul. Smyth goes to the line and knocks down both free throws! A tie game went to Heritage up 4 because of the excellent plays by Aleyah! Aleyah truly has the highest ceiling! She’s athletic, she has great length and size, & she knows the game! She’s extremely unselfish! Keep your eyes on this one!
This was my first time watching Signal Mountain this season. I usually stay in the Knoxville area, but Carlee and this Signal Mountain team may have me watching more! Lowry is as good as advertised! She was great in the paint on both ends of the court! At times it felt like the junior couldn’t be stopped. Carlee is going to be a great asset at the next level for any college program!
