The Hornets hosting the game had a promising first half with a variety of stars coming together to score their points and take the lead. The halftime speech must have been good for the Nighthawks, though, because they came out firing strong in the second half and ultimately went home with a victory. Let’s take a look at some of the standouts from the game.
I’ll start with the Northern Nighthawks.
Jasmine Harris came right in ready to shoot knowing when to take the shot or keep swinging the ball. She has been absolutely on fire the last three games from deep showing off her range and ability to expand the floor. She attacks the basket finding the open lane easily scoring at the rim.
Highlights
Malena DeLisa is all over the court handling the ball, finding the openings, jumping in front of passing lanes, and pushing the tempo. She knows when to attack the basket or pull up for a jumper showing off a nice midrange. Her speed lets her release off a fast break catching the pass in stride and scoring with hands in her face. Her ability to pick the pocket of her opponents is fun to watch as she pushes it up the court.
Cara Trippett was doing the work to get the open look moving well without the ball. When she got the pass she attacked the basket showing off some nice fakes on her way to her points, and she had the open look around the perimeter. She was a nuisance on defense knocking the ball away and grabbing steals on the press.
Leena McField was attacking the basket scoring from all angles taking advantage of the openings that her defenders gave her. She seems to be a magnet for the ball even if a play seems to have broken down she comes out of nowhere grabbing the loose possession and making a bucket. She crashes the boards on defense and is immediately pushing it up the court. She has nice range with her shot knocking it down from deep.
We now move on to the Western Hornets.
Leila Henderson checked into the game ready to make a bucket scoring on her first possession. She does a nice job reading what her defenders give her pushing steals that she grabbed on one end up to the other knowing when to take it all the way or pull back to set up an offensive play. She does a nice job bouncing off of her opponents and showing off her floaters in the paint. She jumps right into the outlet position getting the pass and pushing the tempo up the court.

She was grabbing offensive rebounds even coming from around the perimeter to use some power dribbles and go right back up for the bucket. She was proving her name is true with how many times it came over the microphone for scoring. She was tough on the block on defense blocking shots with ease.
Marissa Mitchell was making some tough takes to the basket showing off some spin moves to get the open look and taking advantage of some free throws after getting fouled. She did a nice job pushing the tempo grabbing the rebound and making a fast break come alive with her hustle on the dribble and nice bounce pass to her teammate. When running some in-bounds plays, she’s patient letting the play develop and finding her open teammate. She ran a pass, relocate, catch, and shoot play so well making it swish from around the arc.
