For those who don’t know, the Miss Tennessee award honors the best player in each classification (We will have a total of 6 of them: D1-A, D1-AA, D1-AAA, D1-AAAA, D2-A, D2-AA). The award honors the young lady who had the best regular season. Postseasons such as the district and state tournaments aren’t accounted for or are a part of the selection process. It’s purely based on the body of work done from tip-off of the first game to the final whistle of the regular season.
As I mentioned before, this segment will take a look at the young ladies from the 3A classification . Talk about some tough young ladies, these sensational ball players are some studs for their teams. They do a little bit of everything and it shows all across the board. I will say, these ladies are some workhorses who help propel their ball clubs to victories.
Here are the 2023-24 Miss Tennessee basketball finalists from the 3A classification.
Carlee Lowry Carlee Lowry 5'9" | SF Signal Mountain | 2025 State TN (5’10/Jr./F/ Signal Mountain)– First off, I would like to say she is a heck of an athlete. Point, blank, period. A multi- talented kid ( she stars on the Diamond, on the volleyball court, and on the hardwood) she’s the ultimate competitor . Can play inside and out, she just competes until the final whistle. Posting 25 ppg and 11rpg, she’s even scored over 30 points in seven games, talk about a go getter. She’s a selfless leader who goes out and will do anything to help propel her ball club. A fierce athlete, she’s hungry and seems to get better every time she steps on the floor. A sensational talent, this kid is tough to stop. Look for her to continue on this upwards trajectory not only on the hardwood but in all her sports.
Addison Melton Addison Melton 6'0" | SG Central Magnet | 2024 State TN (5 ’11/ Sr./ G/ Central Magnet)– The Lipscomb commit is a true ball player. A super tough athlete who is a 3 level scoring threat. She can beat you in so many ways: off the dribble, pull up from deep, knock down the mid-range, get to the rim, she’s equipped with so many counter moves it’s unreal. Coaches struggle with trying to stop her. Her stat line reads as follows: 22 ppg, 4.3rpg, 2.8apg. Don’t you dare foul her, she’s 80% from the free throw line. She’s a tough kid who is a sensational leader. Lipscomb got a steal in this young lady.
Celeste Reed Celeste Reed 5'11" | C White Co. | 2024 State TN (6’0/Sr./PF/ White Co.) – Super tough kid who is just built different. Amazing work ethic this kid is always getting after it. Averaging 16.4 ppg , 10 rpg,2agp, and 2spg, she’s just a workhorse . Oh, she always has eclipsed the 1000 point mark and posted 13 double doubles this year. She is big time for her Lady Warriorettes as she is locked in on both ends of the floor. She’s a heady ball player who does the little things that contribute to her teams success. A solid talent who continues to get better every time she steps onto the floor.
Just missed the cut
Talk about an impressive group to choose from, here are some young ladies who just missed being nominated in the final three of the class 3A finalists.
Ellie Butler Ellie Butler 5'9" | SG Livingston Academy | 2025 State TN (5’10/ Jr./F/ Livingston Academy)– She’s an absolute beast on the floor. Averaging 20.4ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2.1 steals, and 1.6 apg for her ball club, Ms. Butler is the real deal. A multi-level scoring threat, when she has the ball in her possession, prepare for an explosion to happen. She makes her team go and they follow her lead. She’s big on both ends of the floor, but on the offensive end, she’s golden. Look for her to continue on an upwards trajectory and help lead the Lady Wildcats deep into the postseason.
Joys Crawford (5’8/ Jr./ G/ Dyersburg)– This youngin is all glitz and glamor. Hollywood they call her, JC puts on a show for all in attendance. A University of Cincinnati commit, this 3 level scoring threat is tough to handle. A two way player, she locks down on the defensive end and gets buckets. She’s averaging the following this year: 16 ppg, 4.4 rpg,2 asp, 2 spg. She’s one of the leading stars for the Lady Trojans. Joya has done nothing but get better every time she steps onto the floor. A kid who plays with a lot of confidence, look for her to help lead her ball club with their eyes set on a trip to Murfreesboro. This year being in the top 3 might have gotten away from her. I guarantee next year she will be back in contention as a finalist.
Izzy McPhearson Izzy McPhearson 5'10" | SG Sycamore | 2024 State TN (5’10/Sr./G/ Sycamore)– A super solid ball player who just competes. She is a UTC commit who is laser focused and determined. Can score it on all 3 levels, getting after it is what she is all about. This season, she averaged 19.2 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 2.5 apg. The Mocs got a steal on this young lady. She has done nothing but get better. Look for her to continue on this upwards trajectory and carve out her niche on the collegiate level.
Carsyn Swaney Carsyn Swaney 5'11" | PG Heritage | 2025 State TN (5’11/Jr./G/ Heritage)– A machine for the Lady Mountaineers, she plays the game of basketball with so much poise. Blessed with a great size, she is a tough matchup for smaller guards. She can shoot the 3 at a high clip and finish in the painted area. This year she posted 21.2 ppg, 3.3 rpg, and 2.2 spg. Talk about a clutch kid. Skies are the limit for this kid. As the postseason approaches and travel ball is right around the corner, look for her to make some major noise leading into her senior season.
Sydney Wilhite Sydney Wilhite 5'9" | SG Cumberland County | 2027 TN (5’9/ Fr./ SG/ Cumberland Co.)– Tough guard who can shoot the” you know what out” of the ball. She can put it on the deck and finish at the rim, or let it fly from beyond the arc. Has a little shiftiness in her game, she’s a tough matchup on a nightly basis. She’s active on both ends of the floor and the Lady Jets are crazy good when she’s in the game. Averaging 19.7 ppg, 4.1 rpg, and 3.5 spg, on top of shooting 35% from 3. Talk about an impressive coming out party. Hello high school basketball Cumberland Co. has a stud on their hands that will be around for a while. Great kid whose stock arrow is pointing up.
