GREENBRIER EAST! How did we get to the sectional championship? Princeton defeated Oak Hill & Greenbrier East defeated Woodrow Wilson!

The Class AAAA Region 3, Section 2 championship game was held Thursday night in a packed Princeton gymnasium!

First, let's start with Princeton!

[player_tooltip player_id='979378' first='Asia' last='Collins'] | PG | 2025

Collins did every single thing that she could to try to help her team pull out a win! Asia truly has a non-stop motor! Collins notched a double-double. The hustle stats by the point guard included numerous rebounds, deflections, diving on the floor for loose balls, and held balls. This is a point guard that finished with 10 points and 11 rebounds, and that should definitely turn a few heads! Collins has a mindset of, "you won't outhustle me."

[player_tooltip player_id='384036' first='Maddie' last='Stull'] | PF | 2024

Stull finished the game with 15 points. I'll reiterate that the volleyball standout can get it done on the basketball court too! She finished well around the rim all night. Maddie played exceptional defense, recording numerous blocked shots!

Now, let's move on to the champions!

[player_tooltip player_id='764062' first='Jada' last='Waller']

Waller had an exceptional first half to keep Greenbrier East in the game! Jada scored all 10 of her points in the first half. At this point, East was trailing 28-25. Jada is an athlete that can get to the rim & finish. The lefty can also knock down the outside shot. [player_tooltip player_id='764062' first='Jada' last='Waller'] is a name that should be on your radar. The junior is an MVP in her role!

[player_tooltip player_id='656290' first='Ava' last='Workman']

Workman finished the game with 9 points. Ava is an extremely tough freshman! I loved the step back three that helped extend the lead in the 4th quarter. When Ava gets a head of steam going to the basket, she is hard to stop. Workman put her name in almost every stat column. She recorded a nice block too. Ava is an all-around good athlete that is truly a solid defender!

[player_tooltip player_id='496348' first='Kennedy' last='Stewart']

Do they hand out MVP awards? [player_tooltip player_id='496348' first='Kennedy' last='Stewart'] was the MVP of the game! Yes, Kennedy scored two beautiful 3's in the first half. However, she came out in the second half and willed her team to victory. Stewart finished the night scoring 27 points. Yes, that is an unofficial stat, but she drilled 3 after 3. She is always ready to pull the trigger and her confidence never wavers. As soon as she would drive, if the defense collapsed, she made the correct reads every time! She also finished numerous tough layups! She may be a sophomore, but she plays so much older. Stewart is extremely basketball savvy! Yes, she is a next level athlete!

Dean Smith said it best, "Basketball is a beautiful game when the five players on the court play with one heartbeat."

Congratulations to Greenbrier East! You are the sectional champs and you definetely earned it! The road isn't over yet. I do believe that we will see this young East team in Charleston.

Congratulations to Princeton too! Princeton led for a great portion of the game, but could not hold on to secure a win. Princeton will now have to travel to George Washington. Will they pull off an upset like last year? This is TBD!
