A few areas do not have championship games and simply crown a regular season champion, so it’s always exciting to watch the games at the end of the season that mean something before the state playoffs start. Poly won the Baltimore City championship over Western. Pikesville repeated as Baltimore County champs, Gwynn Park surprised CH Flowers for the Prince George’s County title, and Bethesda Chevy Chase knocked off a tough Clarksburg team in Montgomery County. In Anne Arundel County, South River rallied to take down Broadneck in a double overtime thriller. Let’s take a look at the players who stood out.
MacKenzie Wharton, Broadneck, 2024, Shooting Guard- This was my first time seeing Broadneck. I was very impressed with the shooting of this 5’7″ guard. She made 5 three pointers in the game on ten attempts, which helped Broadneck build a 10-point lead. She finished with a game high 22 points.

Skylar Woodyard Skylar Woodyard 5'9" | SF South River | 2025 State MD , South River, 2025, Guard- Sklar led South River with 13 points, but from the opening tip she was making plays all over the court. Her aggressive scoring approach led to easy shot attempts for her teammates as Broadneck was forced to play a lot of help defense. Her speed and athleticism really stood out on both ends of the court.
London Elliott London Elliott 5'5" | PG Poly | 2027 State MD , Poly, 2027, Point Guard– The speedy and explosive point guard put up a team high 15 points to lead Poly to the City championship. She constantly got into the paint and broke down Western’s defense. She’s a strong finisher around the basket and a solid passer.
Mickelle Lowry Mickelle Lowry 5'6" | SG Baltimore Poly | 2024 State MD , Poly, 2024, Guard– The senior combo guard chipped in 14 points and helped stretch the floor with her three-point shooting. The versatile scoring guard is still looking for the right college fit.
Breasia Coit Breasia Coit 6'3" | C Western | 2024 State MD , Western, 2024, Center- The big 6’3″ post put up 17 points and 12 rebounds and helped keep Western within striking distance for most of the game. She is still looking for the right college fit as well.

Ka’Nai Pyatt, Pikesville, 2027, Guard-
The 5’8″ shooting guard came off the bench and proceeded to knock down four three-pointers and help her team take control of the game.
