Gerstell Academy ran the table and went 10-0 in league play and played a tough out of conference schedule as well. They are the favorites to win it coming in. Mount De Sales comes in at 8-2 and is a legit threat to win it it all. They will have to get past a tough John Carroll team that they just beat last week. The Severn School has some size and tough guards, but they come in as underdogs at 5-5 in league play. Here are the key players to watch.
Amyah Heyliger, Severn School, 2027, Point Guard– Amyah is small, but quick with good defensive footwork. I like her ability to control the game and get her team organized. She has exceptional speed and constantly puts pressure on the defense by advancing the ball and probing for openings. She moves well without the ball, setting screens and making sure the plays are run properly. Her shot form looks good and she’s very competitive.
Nyela Djoussou, Severn School, 2024, Power Forward– Forward/center with good length and defensive instincts. Rebounds well and is capable of bringing the ball up the court to initiate offense if necessary.
Mackenzie Conley, Mount de Sales, 2025, Wing– Good ball handler and defender. She has a nice step-back three in her arsenal and her shot making could be the difference in a game.
Shelby Lewis Shelby Lewis 6'1" | C Mt. De Sales | 2025 State MD , Mount de Sales, 2025, Forward– Versatile forward that battles in the paint. She is good at passing out of double teams and she sees them often. She has led the Sailors this far, so let’s see if she has a couple of big performances left in the season.
Anahita Jackson Anahita Jackson 5'8" | SG Gerstell | 2024 State MD , Gerstell Academy, 2025 Guard– These playoff games come down to who can make big shots under pressure. Annie is a streaky shooter and not afraid to let it fly from beyond the three-point line. If she gets on one of her heaters and makes a few in a row, Gerstell can run their opponents of the floor. If that first one goes down, watch out.
Kiara Hardy Kiara Hardy 5'10" | SF Gerstell Academy | 2025 State MD , Gerstell Academy, 2025, Guard/Wing– I’m looking for Kiara to put up double figures in scoring and come up with some hustle plays that help turn the tide in a game. An underrated slasher, she finishes well in the paint and keeps her composure at all times.
Alyssa Hughes Alyssa Hughes 6'2" | SF John Carroll | 2025 State MD , John Carroll, 2025, Forward– Alyssa has excellent size and length and she can shoot the ball from deep. For John Carroll to advance she will have to put up a double-double. She’ll need to stretch the floor with her range, but also bang in the paint, control the boards and pose a scoring threat around the basket.
Vivian Carrico Vivian Carrico 5'9" | SG John Carroll | 2025 State MD , John Carroll, 2025, Wing/Guard– Vivian is the glue of the team. She’s a capable ball handler and passer and at times she can be an aggressive scorer. She’ll need to set the tone and get everyone involved, while also making some shots.
