By the time everything was said and done, Van Tassell bruised and broke the Patriots to the tune of 35 points and 15 rebounds.
Addie Davis, St. Marys, G, 5-8, Jr. – Addie Davis came to play against Gilmer County. No ifs, ands or buts about it. One week after the Titans toppled the Blue Devils for the LKC title, Davis made sure the Blue Devils ended the Titans’ undefeated season. She scored 33 of her team’s 66 points, to go along with 10 rebounds and seven assists, as she helped hand the Titans their first loss of the season, 66-52. Davis took command from the start and never let up until the final buzzer. She knocked down her first shot on a short jumper, the she continued working with St. Marys remaining in control for much of the game.
Ashlyn Riley Ashlyn Riley 5'8" | SF Lincoln | 2024 State WV , Lincoln, CG, 5-10, Sr. – Talk about a show! Ashlyn Riley Ashlyn Riley 5'8" | SF Lincoln | 2024 State WV brought the dinner and entertainment on career-night against Class AAA runner-up Philip Barbour. Tasked with leading her team through the Colts’ tenacious defense, Riley tallied a game-high 43 points, including six treys, and 12 rebounds in a double-double effort. Riley began her night by helping the Cougars to a half-time lead by scoring 19 of her points. The lead kept stretching until the final buzzer thanks to her other 24 points in the second half.
Trinity Balog Trinity Balog 5'7" | SG Parkersburg | 2024 State WV , PHS, 5-8, G, Sr. – Trinity Balog Trinity Balog 5'7" | SG Parkersburg | 2024 State WV came up big. Twice. Presented with a chance to keep St. Albans out of the MSAC title game and get a boost up on the Red Dragons in sectional play, she didn’t waste it. Balog scored 30 points, and the Big Reds bested the Red Dragons, 61-57, last Tuesday on Sam Mandich Floor. She struck late in the first quarter with a buzzer-beating trey to give the Big Reds a 16-14 lead after one. Later in the third period, she extended the Big Reds’ lead with a pair of buckets early in the period. Following a relatively quiet rest of the third, she struck again in the fourth period. Fresh off a screen by teammate Kennedy Porter Kennedy Porter 5'10" | SF Parkersburg | 2026 State WV , she drained a triple near the top of the arc to give her team their largest lead of the game at 16 points. St. Albans didn’t go away. They drew within four points, but by then, the effort from Balog and the Big Reds proved too much to overcome.
However, these heroics weren’t the only time she ended up donning her cape in the week. She struck again during the Mountain State Athletic Conference third-place game in Charleston against the Highlanders. She scored 23 points and the Big Reds needed everyone of them as Huntington made a late comeback attempt before the Big Reds prevailed by a score of 68-61. Balog finished the night just 2 points away from breaking Shay-Lee Kirby’s school record.
Emma Elliott Emma Elliott 5'10" | CG Liberty | 2024 State WV , Liberty, F, 5-10, Sr. – Talk about one heck of an effort even in a loss! Emma Elliott Emma Elliott 5'10" | CG Liberty | 2024 State WV was on point in all areas of her game against Ritchie County in a 90-54 setback. She stuffed the stat sheet with an impressive 28-point, 12-rebound, 6-blocks, and 5-assists effort against the Rebels.
Kayli Kellogg Kayli Kellogg 5'9" | SG Morgantown | 2027 WV , Morgantown, CG, 5-4, Fr. – Back-to-back big games for a freshman? You better believe it. Kayli Kellogg Kayli Kellogg 5'9" | SG Morgantown | 2027 WV may have left her 30-point masterpiece against University thinking the week couldn’t get better. But, it did. She went back out and tallied 30 points 30 points on back-to-back evenings when her team needed her the most against the Hawks and Buchkannon-Upshur.
