Over the next couple of weeks, I will be releasing my annual All-State teams for each of the four school classifications. In the meantime, I wanted to turn the focus on some ladies who played well after Christmas this 2023-2024 season. Below is a look at five such ladies who I felt stood out with their play in January and February.

– Hailey had a nice all-around season as a Freshman, but she really started to take off around Christmas. She isn’t very tall, but she’s a crafty ball-handler, and she possesses solid speed and quickness. What she does extremely well is shoot the ball with range from the perimeter. She had a number of performances where she hit several 3-pointers. As she continues to transition into more of a pure point guard role, she should improve quickly.

– Davianna looks like a scoring threat. She is a nice, long athlete who moves well in most directions. She has some creative ability off the bounce, but she’s much better putting her head down and attacking the basket. The biggest thing for her over the next couple of seasons is going to be to work on making her handle a bit more dynamic and becoming a consistent threat from beyond the arc. She definitely has athletic talent, though.

, 2027, 5-6 SG, Our Lady of Providence H.S.
– Jayda joined a young, talented Providence squad this year, and when she finally found her footing midway through the year, she really asserted herself as a legitimate scorer at their level. From mid-December through January, she was consistently finding double figures, and she was knocking down three, four, or five 3-pointers most games. As she continues to develop her game, adding the ability to be more of a facilitator will definitely help her recruiting.

Kankakee Valley | 2027

, 2027, 5-7 SG, Kankakee Valley H.S.
– Mallorie got more and more comfortable as the 2023-2024 season wore on, and by January she was scoring the ball much more consistently for the Kougars. She is a strong, physical wing guard who has typically been aggressive to the basket North/South. She does a solid job of handling it in transition, and she’s strong enough that, with a little more work, she could become a consistent perimeter shooter eventually as well.

– Carlee is a little under the radar in this 2027 class, but I have a feeling she will draw some attention with her play this Spring. She has an athletic frame, length, and good height to play on the ball. She can run offense and even create a little for teammates, plus she’s a capable scorer from all three levels. She will need to continue working on her lateral quickness, but I think at the end of the day, she will be able to play either guard spot in college.
