The MVP Of The Week is an individual that displayed what it means to put on a major performance/s for their perspective squad throughout the week. Someone who came out firing on all cylinders and dominated in more ways than one on the hardwood while putting up an eye-opening stat line.
The Players Of The Week are other individuals that were in consideration for the MVP of the week but fell just short in the end when taking into consideration all outlying factors.
Thanks for tuning in and enjoy!

- 2/5/24 vs Carlisle – 38 Points (10-23), 3 Rebounds, 4 Assists, 6 Steals, 3 TO
This week was our last week of the regular season for most teams throughout the state because of the Playoff’s approaching. During the week, we had several standout performances, from all different types of players but the most eye opening was a performance put on by Bella Borgos of West Marshall High School. Borgos led her team against a well-equip Carlisle team on Monday evening with a final stat line of 38 Points (10-23), 3 Rebounds, 4 Assists, and 6 Steals. This wasn’t the highest scoring outing of the week throughout the state but it was the most impressive. Taking into consideration the opponent, how close the game was throughout, and what this game meant for each team moving forward. I think it’s easy to see Borgos as the front runner this week with this performance. In the end, the Trojans won 67-62. Giving them some momentum to ride into the Post-season moving forward.

- 2/6/24 vs Webster City – 42 Points (14-26), 12 Rebounds, 1 Assist, 1 Steal, 4 TO’s
Ella Sharar broke the Iowa Falls-Alden Program scoring record on Tuesday evening when she recorded a 42 Point double-double. I’m going to say that one more time for everyone. She recorded a 42 Point Double-Double in her teams win against Webster City on Tuesday and it is not being talked about enough. Sharar is a unique talent out of the 2024 Class. She checks off a lot of boxes and does a lot of good whenever she takes the floor, no matter the competition level. I’ve seen her on the high school floor and the AAU scene. Both situations she plays the exact same way. She seems to standout more at the High School level because of the competition level she faces but that’s common in situations like this. I’m not sure where she will be after this season but if anyone can snag her late around Iowa to play some competitive D3/Naia ball, I’m sure she would produce.

- 2/8/24 vs IKM-Manning – 24 Points (6-15), 16 Rebounds, 3 Assists, 4 Steals, 4 Blocks, 3 TO’s
The Collins-Maxwell Spartans won their first round matchup on Thursday night against IKM-Manning High School with a final score of 52-48, to move onto the Second Round of the Class 1A Playoffs. In this contest, the Spartans had two players make up a total of 49 points out of their teams 52. They were led in scoring by Chloe Wierson Chloe Wierson 5’11” | C Collins-Maxwell | 2024 State IA (25 Points) and Erica Houge Erica Houge 5’7″ | PG Collins-Maxwell | 2024 State IA (24 Points) but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. The two also combined for 27 Rebounds together, making all the difference on the boards. Though Wierson is a life-force for this group, I think that Houge’s entire stat line is what really stands out the most to me. Not only did she have 24 Points and 16 Rebounds, she had multiple Assists, Steals, and Blocks. All while limiting her turnovers. When considering all of that, you can see why Houge is my Player Of The Game. They still have a long way to go and every person who plays minutes, matters but if they are going to win in Round 2, their two stars will have to have another big outing.

- 2/8/24 vs Meskwaki Settlement – 23 Points (8-22)
North Tama High School got a first round win on Thursday evening against Meskwaki Settlement, 50-46. In the end, The Redhawks leading scorer, Adelyn Sienknecht, put the team on her back offensively and because of that, they are still alive moving forward. Sienknecht is a prospect that is a multiple sport athlete and she displays that altheticism every chance she can. In basketball, it helps her defend, rebound, and score on smaller/weaker opponents in the open court. I don’t have the rest of her stat line from this evening but I can imagine that she was helping out her teammates in any ways possible. In a game in which her team only scored 50 points, to put up 23 means everything. I’m not sure how their next round game will go but from everything I’ve seen, they are going to give it their all.

- 2/10/24 vs Marion – 30 Points (10-20), 1 Rebound, 2 Assists, 6 Steals, 6 TO’s
Kennedy got an overtime win on Saturday night against #11 Marion in a highly anticipated battle. This game is somewhat a rivalry. I’m not sure if the girl’s programs look at it like that but school wise, they are close in proximity and usually have some close contests, no matter which sport they are competing in. The final score of this game after OT was 79-78. No matter who own or lost, I don’t think it matters too much. This was an intense game in which both programs got to give it their all. That is a great way to compete moving into the Playoff. There were a few standout players for both sides but the one that stood out the most is SG, Kyla Wright Kyla Wright 5’7″ | SG Cedar Rapids Kennedy | 2024 IA . Wright ended the game with 30 Points on 50% shooting, along with creating 6 turnovers against her counterpart. If the Cougars want to win some meaningful contests before this season comes to an end, Wright needs to continue to play at this rate. She has proven that she can step up in the moment so I’m sure she is going to get her chances. If she can make the most of those, this team could upset some programs over these next few weeks.
