Unsigned guard Skye Pepp Skye Pepp 5'7" | PG Allen ISD | 2024 State TX led the way with 17 points to go along with 7 assists yet that doesn’t surprise me because “that’s what she does and has been doing” She also added 4 rebounds and 2 steals
That got me thinking about how many #4 teams beat district champions this season and Lake Ridge, led by talented freshman Jazman Bailey Jazman Bailey 5'9" | PG Mansfield Lake Ridge | 2027 State TX , along with juniors Kinsea Logan Kinsea Logan 6'1" | C Mansfield Lakeridge | 2025 State TX and Joy Egbuna Joy Egbuna 6'2" | C Mansfield Lakeridge | 2025 State TX over Midway while Houston area team Westfield pulled out a win over Oak Ridge in Region 2
In an almost upset, Cinco Ranch almost got Hightower in Region 3 and I thought the shoe team groupies would have posted something yet I’d be willing to bet Aniyah Foy Aniyah Foy 6'0" | SG Cinco Ranch | 2025 State TX put her squad on her back and almost pulled it off in OT
Four teams in the REGION did pull off victories and Mackenzie Teuton Mackenzie Teuton 5'5" | PG Travis | 2027 State TX sealed her addition to the 2027 Watchlist, well it was already sealed but she is one of the top POINT GUARDS in the Houston area right now, and without being there, I’m almost certain she showed the game started at the 1 teaming with 6’3 C Jordyn Mays to help Travis defeat Tompkins
Historically over my 20-plus seasons, I have seen districts swept in the first round and to help those who are trying to figure that out, you can’t because sometimes it’s the luck of the draw and each district is not evenly matched, but that’s common sense which is one of the many things that has gone out of the window
Alief Taylor probably pulled off the biggest upset against Dickinson, It’s too bad our local paper hasn’t tried to “grow the game” this century so no stats are being listed anymore, they used to at least post who scored in double figures yet you can’t even find the schedule on what teams are playing and where the venue is yet no one complains and I don’t have a “dog in the fight” but when you SETTLE, this is what happens
I do know Nataliyah Gray Nataliyah Gray 6'3" | PF Alief Taylor | 2025 State TX had a triple-double and this is a young lady I dropped #D1Lock on in elementary school yet the 6’3 C has continued to elevate her game and go from a back to the basket to play multiple positions and drop it from outside led the way
Districts 18 and 22 were swept fueled by Jersey Village squeaking by Westside and Atascocita defeating Deer Park so the second round begins tonight so let the games begin
Speaking of TONIGHT, I’m glad NFHS has several games I’m interested in being shown and the Pearland vs Westbrook will feature two of the top freshmen in the STATE as A’zuya Blair A’zuya Blair 5'6" | PG Pearland | 2027 State TX (Pearland) and Ma’Ryiah Alfred Ma’Ryiah Alfred 5'7" | CG Beaumont Westbrook | 2027 State TX (Westbrook) are a couple of names you will be hearing a whole lot about over the CLUB BASKETBALL season
