Bullis Scoring
Something that stood out this week was the balance of Bullis’ scoring against an excellent Potomac School team. They had five players in double figures, led by Ivanna Manyacka, who had 16. Ivanna is one of the best freshmen in Maryland. Megan Yarnevich is a rebounding machine, averaging a double-double, and several nice players make this team so great.
Catholic is one of the best teams in the state, and they showed that in the second half against Flint Hill. Olivia Bowes Olivia Bowes 5’8″ | SG Catholic HS | 2024 State VA led the charge for the Crusaders with a double-double. She finished with 20 points and 10 rebounds in an excellent showing. Olivia knocked down 3 threes in a 20-point Catholic win. Olivia’s versatility is very impressive. She is a good spot-up shooter and does well as a driver. She is a tenacious rebounder and can play multiple positions.
PVI’s defense against St. John’s was terrific on Sunday, and Laura Williams Laura Williams 6’2″ | PF Paul VI | 2024 State VA was their anchor. St. John’s struggled to get shots over Laura’s length, and she disrupted everything they tried to do. She also dominated the game in the paint on offense, working out the post and forcing a lot of St. John’s fouls. Laura was great on the glass and had an outstanding all-around game.
Ava Limcaoco Ava Limcaoco 5’2″ | PG Paul VI | 2025 State VA had a great game off the bench for PVI. Her shooting kept them in it, and she made big shots early and late. St. John’s press didn’t affect her, and she calmed down a PVI offense that struggled early.
I talked earlier about how good the PVI defense was, and outside of the first couple of minutes of the first quarter and third quarter, St. John’s offense looked stuck. Kyndal Walker’s scoring in the second quarter was a big reason St. John’s wasn’t down heading into the half. She got into the lane using crafty moves to get fouled or finish at the rim. She also hit some tough mid-rangers.
Highlights
Jaidyn Kelsey Harper Kelsey Harper 5’4″ | PG Northside | 2028 VA started her day early with a three and was very productive all evening. She went on a scoring spree for a few minutes in the third quarter and was deadly when she got an open catch-and-shoot look.
