Alaniz has been steadily adding and showing she can do more than apply on the ball pressure baseline to baseline, as well as in the set but she’s an athletic guard that uses her athleticism on both ends. She attacks the basket strongly, has nice body control and finishes after contact yet her pull-up jumper from midrange was clicking and she did a good job hitting the boards
Neha Sasser
Neha Sasser
Sasser lit it up on both ends and she falls into that “long and athletic” guard group. I was impressed with her UPS as she elevated over taller players to not only rebound, but score around the basket yet she created her shot and handled the ball under pressure, knocked it down from outside yet her first step gave defenders problems as she attacked and finished strongly
Johnson was dropping it from mid to long-range while being defended, that’s always important yet she used a deceptive first step to get the defender off balance. That allowed her to score off the dribble but her court vision, both in the set as well as in transition was nice, she even showed she could “catch and shoot” it from distance
Audriana Kobina
Audriana Kobina
Kobina did something numerous times I love seeing and that was “playing the passing lane” but she also handled the ball after the steal, saw the floor and made good decisions, yet she applied heat “on the ball” as well. I also liked her timing to make the offensive player alter their shots which is more than solid
Nickerson continues to elevate her game and she’s one of those players that can get hers “in the flow” yet don’t blink because she can take over games offensively and score in droves. She understands how to patiently set the defender up to score off the dribble but she mixes it up nicely and drops the jumper from outside. She also does a good job defensively
Highlights
Bella Davis
Bella Davis
Davis understands positioning which helped enable her to not only rebound on both ends but score on putbacks, as well as around the basket. She also did a good job defensively, in and outside the paint while showing solid lateral movement
Brooke Smith
Brooke Smith
Smith falls in to that “never takes a play off” category and her going after loose balls, in the air as well as diving on the floor gets her the #THROWBACK hashtag. She’s heady, does a good job of creating her shot and knocking it down both in the set as well as in transition
Kelsey Quinn
Kelsey Quinn
Quinn played solid on both ends and her comprehension coupled with desire all stood out. She did a good job on the defensive end, understood when to switch and reacted well guarding off the pick but she also showed she could drop it from outside and her ability to not only drop the 3, but show she could “catch and shoot” was nice
Natalia Reyna
Natalia Reyna
Reyna falls into another group I have a hashtag for and that is #sizedontmatter because she can play. I enjoyed her outrebounding taller players, as well as scoring on putbacks over their outstretched hands. She also handled the ball after rebounding, showed she could drop it from mid to long range and attacked off the dribble to score in the set
Fifi Adene
Fifi Adene
Adene was another athletic guard that uses her athleticism on both ends of the court. I have been watching her and her twin sister for a couple of seasons and her progression is steadily adding more to her game. She’s poised under pressure, makes good decisions and can score off the dribble yet her defense is smothering at times
Nife Adene
Nife Adene
Adene like her twin uses her athleticism on both ends of the court. Her on the ball pressure helps to create turnovers, her quick hands have a little something to do with that but her court vision in transition is also a plus. She’s explosive off the dribble, first step is hard to deal with and she finishes strongly, with either hand
Jocelyn Jones
Jocelyn Jones
Jones is another “long and athletic” guard that did a good job of not only defending but she understands the importance of playing the passing lane. She rebounded on both ends, scored around the basket and showed she could attack off the dribble, her deceptive first step played a part in that, and finish
Hall has elevated her game each season since I caught her I guess around 4 years ago. She stands over “the magic number” which is 6’0 and the magic doesn’t stop there as she’s going AFTA the ball off the rim, on both ends and finishing stronger around the basket. She’s also defending both in and outside the paint, she’s even facing the basket to score yet her timing to block, alter and (or) deflect shots has gotten better
