I caught their top squad a couple of times at the event with plenty of new faces that stood out along with the old ones I already knew about
Woldai is one of those players that sold me the first time I saw her because of her #THROWBACK mindset and since she also falls into that “never takes a play off” type of player, it’s easy for me to comprehend what I’m looking at. Her smothering defense baseline to baseline helps to create turnovers, so do her quick hands and playing the passing lane yet she blows by defenders to score off the dribble, acrobatic finishes after contact, body control plays a part in that. She can drop the jumper from outside yet watching her thread the needle in the set and in transition for assist opportunities have gotten even better
Highlights
Tatum Vroonland
Tatum Vroonland
Vroonland left a lasting first impression by showing she understands how to set the defender up and create her shot to either attack off the dribble and score or drop it from outside, mid to long range. Just as impressive was her ability to “catch and shoot” while being tightly guarded and her court vision also strong
Sydnee Jones
Sydnee Jones
Jones has been making my Tip Sheets since elementary school and here’s a huge TIP, her progression o the court got better each season and when I caught back up with her in high school, I just smiled. At the event, I was still smiling as she dazzled the defender to attack the basket, with either hand, and finish but her pull-up jumper in the set and stop and pop in transition were also nice
Payton Green
Payton Green
Green means go and she did just that on the offensive end. She is one of the shooters that are new to the squad and when you have an abundance of players that can drop it from mid to long-range, that’s going to come in handy and not only does she shoot it well, she wants it in clutch situations and since she can also show “the catch and shoot” as well as attack the basket, I’ll be watching closely
Kaitlyn McAdoo
Kaitlyn McAdoo
McAdoo was another pleasant surprise as she did a good job of scoring off the dribble as well as dishing off the dribble. Her court vision didn’t stop there as she saw the floor in the set as well as in the open court but her poise and playing within herself was solid, so was her getting hers “in the flow”
Miagrace Delahoz
Miagrace Delahoz
Delahoz showed she was yet another shooter that needed to be guarded before she got the ball. She did a good job setting the defender up to attack using a deceptive first step yet she kept the defender guessing because she also showed the slight HEZ to create separation and drop the mid to long range. Another plus was she “too” could “catch and shoot” while being guarded closely
Kasonga was recently added to the Top 100 after a stellar season of both club and high school ball yet it was only a matter of time because she falls into that “long and athletic” category which is and always will be the base. I enjoyed seeing her finish around the basket stronger, she showed a little of the “hands and footwork” to score yet she also showed she could elevate over the defender in the paint. She rebounded, on both ends, blocked some shots and even scored off the dribble
Maya Bujak
Maya Bujak
Bujak understands how to use her frame around the basket, yeah she’s another new addition and her “hands and footwork” created some problems for defenders as she scored in the paint, off the dribble, from outside and even off the dribble yet watching her play solid interior defense was nice, but her playing the passing lane, handling the ball and seeing the floor afterward JUST DID IT for me
