Ms. Shayla's mac & cheese and baked beans, and Mr Smith's deep fried treats were not the only things cooking at the Wildcat Shootout. A lot of guards were cooking out there on the floor. In this article, we take a look at a number of guards who cooked so well on the courts that they could have called this event the Wildcat Cookout. In this article, we recognize some of the Florida Guards who were standouts.

[player_tooltip player_id='633535' first='Alex' last='Gross'] prepared a gourmet meal on Day 2 and might have had only 2 baskets. Gross's basketball “cooking skills” were on display: her speed on the floor, her ability to maneuver and slice through the defense; her ability to stop and start and sometimes shake and bake. Gross was a playmaker on the court, finishing the game with at least 10 assists. She had a huge impact on the game. That kind of playmaking is a recipe for getting to Lakeland. Keep cooking Chef Gross. That meal was all of that and bag of chips.

[player_tooltip player_id='248555' first='Trista' last='Brown'] played very well and did a good job of getting her team into its offensive sets. Brown handled the ball well and kept the defense at bay. Brown does a good job of using her body to fend off the opponent. She passed it well and had the shot cooking at maximum heat at one juncture of the game. Just another day in the kitchen from Brown and crew.

[player_tooltip player_id='934624' first='Molly' last='Dean'] was out their grilling opponents and passing out menus to college coaches on the sideline. Dean got to the rim and sometimes through contact. It didn't matter. Her defense was solid and her ability to take it coast to coast was solid. Deans basket IQ was very apparent and on both ends of the floor. Her ability to anticipate was also a key ingredient for her standing out.

[player_tooltip player_id='400774' first='Jadynn' last='Spivey'] had some good “cooking” moments at the Wildcat Shootout. Her ability to shoot the ball, cut to the rim, attack the rim, and draw the foul were noticeable. Spivey provided the appetizer at the cookout and that alone had college coaches talking and inquiring.

[player_tooltip player_id='934628' first='Jasmine' last='Cross'] was out there doing a little “something-something” behind the hot plate. Cross handled the ball well, ran the offense, and passed the rock. Cross checked a lot of boxes of what you look for in a point guard. The final product was very good. We will look to see what Cross cooks up for sure next basketball season.
