2027 Rankings: Top Combo Guards

The first rankings of the year for the class of 2027 have just been posted! The 2027 class in its entirety is one with a bright future. Make sure to take a look at the list that was rigorously assembled with the intent of truly highlighting the best talent hailing out of the '27 class. Out of the 50 players gathered, these 7 players are some of the most prolific talents in the whole class playing the combo guard position.       [player_tooltip player_id='351873' first='Story' last='Victory Moore'] (2027) | 5'6 CG | Tilton   [player_tooltip player_id='351873' first='Story' last='Victory Moore'] is the #1 combo guard coming into the latest rankings. Story has a cosmic game that accommodates her scoring prowess. She can score in various ways from all 3 levels of the floor. Her ability to seek out mismatches while operating in isolation or the pick & roll is next level. SVM's attacking nature allows her to find her way into the paint despite the defense's gameplan of keeping her out. Her finishing ability once she is able to sneak her way around perimeter defense, the help that steps up and rim protectors is unrivaled. The 3-pointer is shot at an efficient rate, but she also shoots a healthy dose of them because many teams are intimated of her driving ability. Off the dribble she will always remain an offensive factor and when combined with the natural skillset to make the players around her better, Story remains on the a-list in the class when it comes to creating.     [player_tooltip player_id='967296' first='Maeve' last='Powers'] (2027) | 5'7 CG | North Quincy   [player_tooltip player_id='967296' first='Maeve' last='Powers'] is on a fast-track to becoming a well-known name in Massachusetts. Her improvement over the last year and a half is astonishing. The 5'7 dynamic guard has enhanced every part of her game in such a short time. Powers is a player that can play within the system while running developed offensive sets, but still retains the ability to change the course of the game with her scoring. She masks her 3-level scoring with the look of a traditional floor general. When Maeve gets rolling, it's hard to stop her. She seems to manipulate the defense into getting the quality looks she wants, without ever doing too much. Powers isn't a player that will dribble the air out of the ball when looking to get a bucket, she takes a much more methodical approach that can rock a defender to sleep. She packs a quick burst of speed when getting to the basket downhill and when she draws paint attention from those who step up, she is able to find her teammates, regardless of where they are on the floor.     [player_tooltip player_id='481898' first='Payton' last='Scurry'] (2027) | 6'0 CG | St. George's   Payton is one of the most intriguing combo guards coming in at 6'0. She can play many roles out of the guard position, but can also find success anywhere on the perimeter or mid-post. Scurry uses her size and long strides to her advantage to create driving angles for herself. The quick first step off the bounce is incredible for her size and when she gets through the lane, her length allows her to finish despite the collapsing defense. Her shooting is impressive for a player with so much physical tools. She sports a nice-looking jump shot that has a high arc, a quick release and great rotation. Offensive boards are an area that scurry excels at, no matter where she may be on the floor. She seems to just find the ball after a quick bounce off the rim and puts it right back up. Payton moves well laterally for someone her size on the perimeter and that's exactly why she is such an intimidating defender as well. Her long arms combined with her quick feet allow for her to pounce on attacking dribblers. Her wingspan alone seems to engulf players trying to find their way into the paint, her reaction time is impeccable and she's able to recover on the drop of a dime. Scurry is fully engaged on the defensive side, whether that's playing help side, diving for loose balls or making impact blocks to change the momentum of the game. Payton is one of those players to keep an eye on this season, she is bound for a breakout year on a talented St. George's squad.     [player_tooltip player_id='968170' first='Sy'Nye' last='Baker'] (2027) |5'6 CG | Springfield Renaissance   [player_tooltip player_id='968170' first='Sy'Nye' last='Baker'] was top 5 in field goals made, free throws and assists for the state of Massachusetts. She was also 1st Team All-Region this year as a freshman playing a tough schedule. Baker is a relentless finisher no matter where on the floor, but especially when getting a full head of steam. The stocky guard embraces contact and can burrow herself within the teeth of the defense to be able to give herself a good chance of hitting a high percentage shot. On the defensive end, she stays low while engaging offensive players attacking her. She has a competitive nature and seems to take head-to-head matchups personal. Baker is coming in as a sophomore into a lead role for Springfield Renaissance. Look out for Baker this season, she will be a player that can become a quick stock riser.     [player_tooltip player_id='967979' first='Addison' last='Mahar'] (2027) | 5'4 CG | Rocky Hill Country Day   Addison is a talented combo guard with a wide range of skills. Her speedy handle combined with her nimble movements and astute playmaking skills make her a top guard in the class. Mahar comes into the season as a champion. She helped lead her team into the win in a title game earlier this year. She had a stellar performance that included a dynamic first quarter where she seemed to make everything. Mahar proved as a freshman that she can play in the biggest moments and isn't afraid to perform under the bright lights. Addison remains a factor within the offense due to her ability to light the defense up from long range. She makes whatever defender is guarding her work and requires them to stay alert at all times. Mahar has sneaky athleticism while having the endurance to run off screens all game. Not only are there on-ball screens, but Addsion also comes off flare screens like no other. The ability to run off various screens while remaining shot ready is a skill that cant just be replicated. This skillset just shows the attention to detail and the hard work paying off. She has a very picturesque form and lets the ball fly swiftly from her hands. As a defender, Mahar shows perseverance fighting to get around screens while doing her best to disrupt ball handlers. She has active hands and makes it difficult for opposing players. This year should be an exciting year for the rising sophomore to make a big impression in NEPSAC.     [player_tooltip player_id='341007' first='Kaylee' last='Maier'] (2027) | 5'2 CG | Dracut   [player_tooltip player_id='341007' first='Kaylee' last='Maier'] has tremendous potential. She can score from all 3 levels, but her tremendous speed, crisp passing and unmatched cutting ability make her a well-rounded talent. Kaylee has striking speed which is a staple in her game. She will beat defenders to the spot and has no problem getting off the ball quickly to engage early offense. Maier makes everyone around her better. She plays the game in a way that she'd be most coach's ideal floor general. Not only does she have great facilitating skills, but she has the scoring prowess needed to be a top-notch player. Kaylee has no problem using her speed to her advantage in the open floor after a rebound and zip a pass to one of her teammates for an easy basket. She also defends well regardless of the matchup. Maier is feisty when guarding dribble happy players trying to catch a rhythm. She's able to disrupt loose ball handlers and interrupt offenses with her lighting quick speed. Kaylee is looking to have herself a big upcoming year for Dracut.     [player_tooltip player_id='967967' first='Sidney' last='Bautz'] (2027) | 5'6 CG | Worcester Academy   [player_tooltip player_id='967967' first='Sidney' last='Bautz'] is an all-around talent that brings a lot to the table. She has true star potential and her skillset is advanced. Her intricate movements out of triple threat allow her to create the best available angles for herself when driving. She embraces contact while finding herself finishing a healthy dose of and-1s. Bautz has a crafty handle that could put any defender on skates if not approached correctly. Although an avid ball handler, Sidney is still cautious with the ball in her hand. She protects the ball with her body as she is doing her spin moves and will eliminate wasted movement to ensure she has the most efficient attempt. Her 3-point shooting is potent within the halfcourt and she even shows skill shooting while in transition. Bautz is one of those players that will get a basket and immediately get in a defensive stance. She will get underneath ballhandlers' skin while being a pest. Bautz beats defenders to the spot headup. She also rarely loses sight of where the ball is when she's a couple passes away. Sidney communicates well on the floor with her teammates and that translates to consistent defensive strategies. Bautz is on a skilled Worcester Academy team that will surely be in need of her versatile skillset throughout the year.
