5 Underestimated Performers From The Freshman Showcase

The Freshman Showcase took place last weekend and the court was filled with exceptional talent from all different positions in the class. The girls exhausted themselves in hard fought gameplay. There were plenty of talented players, however there were a couple that had underrated performances. Below are 5 underestimated players that should be highlighted from the Freshman Showcase.    [player_tooltip player_id='1005118' first='Kaylani' last='Osborne'] (2028) | Wing | Platt   Kaylani offered high energy play from start to finish. The vibrant wing is a 2-way player that was effective in transition as well as halfcourt action. She loved embracing all contact she faced at the rim. Kaylani was adaptable when playing with teammates due to her skillset of being able to slide to many different positions. She never hesitated in picking players up and making ballhandlers uncomfortable. Osborne provided consistent pressure on the defensive end while showing extreme hustle by getting back into plays. Kaylani is a solid prospect worth keeping an eye on.     [player_tooltip player_id='975787' first='Liliana' last='Perez'] (2028) | 5'2 PG | Methuen   Liliana worked seamlessly with her teammates throughout the showcase. She is a player that can work well with other talents on the floor. Although a point guard, Perez has no problem getting off the ball or allowing others to help facilitate, but she takes just enough initiative to attack when the time came. She takes hard angles to the rim after assessing her options. Liliana also has quick feet which aided her on the defensive side of the ball. Even at 5'2 Liliana was chasing down fast breaks in an attempt to make a last second effort on a play. She'll pick up any primary ballhandler and also has the ability to do guard-to-guard switching on screens. Altoghter, Perez is a well-founded cogent point guard.     [player_tooltip player_id='1005129' first='Shea' last='Staples'] (2028) | 5'5 Wing | Dracut   Shea is a solid wing player that brought efficient shooting and astute calculating reads throughout the showcase. What was most impressive about Staples on the day was her display of picturesque shooting. Shea has excellent shooting mechanics that lead to effective shooting. She's able to remain a threat from deep range without shooting her team out of games. Her ability to swing to open teammates must be highlighted as well, especially when on the court with even matched talent. The ball never just stuck to her and her teammates loved playing with her. Shea had no problem giving the ball up, knowing she could get it back after the defense has shifted. She was a pleasure to watch at the showcase.     [player_tooltip player_id='1005116' first='Aaliyah' last='Maddox'] (2028) | 5'4 CG | Maloney   Aaliyah is a highly effective 2-way player that brought a ton of energy to the games. Maddox works well with others on the floor, but something that stands out is her ability to finish with both hands while retaining an exceptionally soft touch around the rim. She was solid on the defensive end and was able to pick up different players at various positions whenever the situation called for it. A daring rebounder that will surely bang down low to get a board. Overall, Maddox was a striking prospect that was an impact on the floor.     [player_tooltip player_id='1005117' first='Alexis' last='Purcaro'] (2028) | 5'4 Wing | St. Paul   The flexible wing was very resourceful on the floor throughout the showcase. There were many things Purcaro did that wouldn't necessarily show up on the stat sheet. Alexis was able to aid her team with hustle plays, sharing the ball and a having a knack for knowing where the ball is. She wasn't shy about crashing the glass on either side of the ball which helped her team win some extra possessions. Purcaro showed she was a sufficient wing that could positively impact the game.
