1A 2025 Wings who will make waves this season

In this article, there are players already committed to play college basketball, but the vast majority of players mentioned are still up for grabs. Any college in the country can use players who are as versatile as these 1A stars.    [player_tooltip player_id='875501' first='Ayla' last='Hoelzeman'] is a versatile two-way player for Sacred Heart High School. She can play either forward position and she knows how to make tough, winning plays for her team.   Hoelzeman's offense is centered around her play inside the arch. She is a very good finisher with both hands and scores easily through contact. Hoelzeman is a fantastic offensive rebounder, and scores a lot of second chance points. A lot of second-chance opportunities seem to come from offensive rebounds from missed free throws, which coaches love to see. Outside of the painted area, Hoelzeman can knock down mid-range shots, even ones from just inside the 3-point line. She can hit them on the move and in catch-and-shoot situations. Hoelzeman's rebounding is also great on the defensive side. She opens up a lot of fastbreak opportunities for her team once she brings down a board and throws an outlet pass.   On defense, Hoelzeman is a solid shot-blocker who can shut down the post against players twice her size. Even if she gets pushed under the basket on defense, she is still able to get a hand on the ball or apply a tough contest on her taller assignments. She also has very active hands and keeps her head on a swivel, racking up a lot of steals.   [player_tooltip player_id='875501' first='Ayla' last='Hoelzeman'] is very versatile as a forward for Sacred Heart. If she has a strong senior season, expect her name to find its way onto the recruiting scene.     [player_tooltip player_id='1051639' first='Journi' last='Versie'] is the first player in this article who is already committed to play at the next level. Crowley's Ridge College got their hands on the 2-time all-conference and all-region player in June, but if Versie has a strong senior season, expect some other schools to try to pull her away from the Lady Pioneers.   [player_tooltip player_id='1051639' first='Journi' last='Versie'] averaged a double-double last season for Marked Tree, and she was doing so in a lot of important games. Last season, Versie recorded a 15-point, 14-rebound double-double in an important 1A-3 conference win over Armorel High School. Versie was also a part of a Marked Tree team that posted 30 wins last season and made it to the 1A state semi-finals before losing to state runner-up Norfork High School.   Versie has an impressive resume, but add how she is a tough interior finisher, a good mid-range shooter, and an impactful defender, you have yourself a great player. Oh, and she is one of the best rebounders in the state of Arkansas.     [player_tooltip player_id='465508' first='Rayleigh' last='Turner'] should be a player everyone in the state cannot stop talking about. A do-it-all player for Rural Special High School, and perhaps the best all-around player in the 1A classification. Turner has been in the AR Prep Girls Hoops system for a couple of years now, and I would not be surprised if she continues to impress as a senior.   Most evaluators on this site have talked a lot about Turner's offense, and I do not blame them. She plays with tremendous basketball IQ. She can attack the basket, hit her outside shots, draw fouls and convert at the free throw line. She can also rebound, pass, and handle the ball well. Honestly, I am more impressed with Turner's defensive potential.   Turner has shown on multiple occasions to force turnovers from the other team. She is very active on defense and moves her feet quickly in order to stay in front of her assignment. Turner does not hesitate to poke a ball away or to jump on loose balls to take it the other way. She is also an impressive shot blocker. She waits for the perfect moment to jump up and swat shots away, and does so without fouling.   [player_tooltip player_id='465508' first='Rayleigh' last='Turner'], if she has not already, will turn some heads this season, so keep up with the North Arkansas College commit in 2024/25.     [player_tooltip player_id='1051642' first='Addie' last='Overturff'] is considered by many people to be a guard. She does have guard skills, but she has the height to apply those skills to the forward position. Plus, I talk all the time about how wings are supposed to be versatile and play multiple positions, and Overturff can.   Overturff is another versatile and all-around player who is clearly the best player for the Shirley Blue Devils. In a game versus eventual 1A state runner-up Norfork High School, Overturff had 20 of her team's 30 points in a loss. Overturff can put up points in a hurry, and does so from inside and out.   Overturff's 3-point shooting is spectacular, as she has a very fluid shooting form with a quick, flexible release. Her shot's arch is solid, and she can hit her outside shots from every spot along the 3-point line. Overturff is a great slasher, and if she is running the point and sees a lane to the basket, she is not going to think twice about taking it to the hoop. On her way to the cup, she can use a variety of finishing moves, including the euro-step and the step-through in order to get around the defense.   On the opposite side of the ball, Overturff is very active and steals a lot of balls. She uses her length well on the glass and pulls down a fair amount of boards.   Shirley can improve in 2024/25, and it starts with [player_tooltip player_id='1051642' first='Addie' last='Overturff']. If she continues to be the absolute focal point on offense, she has potential to be a top 3 player in 1A, but she needs some help from her teammates if she wants more college recruiting.     [player_tooltip player_id='1192830' first='Laiken' last='Cornett'] is a tough two-way forward for Concord High School. Cornett helped lead her Lady Pirates to the 1A state semi-finals before losing to the eventual champs Mammouth Spring High School. Cornett is one of many seniors on this Concord team, and she has a chance to separate herself from the pack with a strong senior campaign.   Cornett is very long, which includes her wingspan. Along with solid athleticism, these tools are important in her defensive capabilities. She can steal the ball well, especially when reading the defense perfectly and intercepting a pass. Cornett is also the best shot-blocking forward in the 1A-2. In a game versus Hillcrest High School last season, Cornett jumped out of the building to record a huge block. That play earned her a spot on the Arkansas Basketball Hudl page for one of the 5 blocks of the week of March 3rd. When talking about a player being "two-way," they obviously cannot be just one-sided.   Cornett can hit threes and finish inside on offense. She has a quick release on her jumper and uses that athleticism to her advantage in order to score over the defense in the post and to pull down bunches of boards.   [player_tooltip player_id='1192830' first='Laiken' last='Cornett'] is one of the more under-the-radar players in the 1A classification, but she has a real chance to put her name on the map in 2024/25.    Those 1A senior forwards are very talented. Of course, [player_tooltip player_id='465508' first='Rayleigh' last='Turner'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1051639' first='Journi' last='Versie'] are already off the board, but the other players on this list are ready to contribute at the next level.
