New York State is very passionate about basketball – and Nassau and Suffolk counties is one of the most talent-rich regions of the state – and in the northeast as a whole.

As competitive as basketball is in this portion of the state, one can expect Long Island to be loaded with talent that can make things happen close to the rim. And much of that is veteran talent. Junior threes and fours get their fair share of recognition here.

Swords will continue to be a name we hear about – both nationally and internationally. A prospect from north of the border, she plays her AAU ball for one of Canada's premier club teams in Kia Nurse Elite. Also, she guided Team Canada to a silver medal at the U17 FIBA World Cup. Listed at 6-foot-2, Swords is more of a wing rather than the conventional two or three. She comes from a basketball family – her sister Nyla is about to begin her freshman season at Michigan and participated in this year's Olympics with Canada. The skillset that the younger sister possesses could have her on the same trajectory.

When basketball is not occupying the lion's share of Campbell's athletic attention, that is typically reserved for flag football – the second sport she plays – where she is a wide receiver. At 5-foot-11, she plays the more traditional four or five role on both ends of the floor. Campbell has no issues calling for the ball when she is certain she can make a play – and that typically results in her converting on high-percentage baskets. Add in her rebounding capabilities and one can see why MacArthur is pleased that Campbell will be sporting Generals colors for the next couple of seasons as she is a double-double possibility on a game-by-game basis.

This past summer, Robinson announced that she had landed an offer from Syracuse. Prior to arriving on the scene at St. Mary's, she attended Archbishop Molloy next door to Nassau County in Queens. Following a stellar campaign during the AAU months with Castle Athletics, her 2024-25 with the Gaels is sure to be a noteworthy one. She stands at an even six feet – and given her wingspan, that comes in very useful as a rebounder and as a shot blocker. Another of the premier bigs anywhere in the state, expect Robinson to prove once again this season why a Division I program like the Orange would want to see her in its colors in a couple of years.

Fehrenbach played her AAU ball this past spring and summer with Team Northeast. Formerly an Upstate prospect at Victor out of the Rochester area, she has made the move to Long Island Lutheran and already holds several college offers. Marist, LeMoyne and St. Bonaventure are among the schools that want Fehrenbach in their colors in a couple of years. One reason as to why they want representing their colleges is because she plays more the wing position as opposed to the typical two or three. She led Victor to a 19-1 record and posted averages of 19 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals a contest. One notable game she had occurred in a win over Hilton in early February where she tallied 35 points and hauled in 21 rebounds.

We highlighted Taylor's teammate – [player_tooltip player_id='1137993' first='Sandra' last='Clarke'] – in our article featuring 2026 guards. Westhampton Beach put together a stellar season in 2023-24 as they were victorious in 13 of 15 contests last season. Taylor is a double-double threat on a game-by-game basis – including when she tallied 14 points and brought down 11 boards to help the Hurricanes claim Suffolk County 2A supremacy in a 47-41 victory over Bellport. Along with what she can get accomplished on the basketball court, she also excels on the volleyball team at Westhampton Beach. The Hurricanes are poised to continue their winning ways with Taylor returning for another go-round sporting Westhampton Beach green.
