"Last season ended earlier than we had expected. We started hot with 6 wins off the bat, winning by an average of 33.8 pts. We then headed out to Minnesota and played two tough opponents out east. First up was Wayzata. It was a little faster-paced and physical than our girls were used to but adapted well as the game went on. It looked like Wayzata was going to walk away with an easy win early in the game. We ended up coming back and making it a tied game on a near end-of-clock 3-point shot. Wayzata got across half-court and called a timeout. They ended up getting off a second chance shot and winning the game at the buzzer. Had a short turn around to play Hopkins the next day. They girls bounced back after a hard-fought game and got after it right away against Hopkins. You could tell how tired the girls were the longer the game went on and Hopkins pulled away down the stretch. After leaving Minnesota with two losses, we ended up going on a 13-game win streak to end the regular season at 19-2. Going into the postseason with conference play, we win the first one and move onto a tough opponent in [program_tooltip program_id='712656' first='Mandan' last='']. We lost a key player that game due to injury and we really found out what our team was made of going into the championship game. Our team really rallied together with our key player out and we won the championship game 80-61. Going into the state tourney we had high hopes based on how we ended the season and how we ended the conference tourney. We win the quarter-finals of state and head into the semifinals against Bismarck High. We had seen them 2 times during the regular season already. They had the better game in the long run. We couldn't get much going on offense and didn't get the stops we needed on defense. Bismarck High ended up winning and sending us to the consolation championship against Grand Forks Red River. We beat them during the regular season but again struggled to get it done. We ended up taking 6th at state. All in all the season did not end the way we had thought it was going 23-4."

We had these four in a rotating starting spot last year and they made it hard every day of practice and games. Eve, Kinley, and Everette are all guards who can do a little bit of everything from playing off the ball to handling the ball. They all shoot the ball at a very good rate as well. Sydney is a forward and big part of our energy coming off the bench. She ended the season very well and exceeded expectations with her rebounding and defense."

PGHD: What style of basketball will you play?

"Our style of play is very fast and very aggressive. On offense, we love to push the ball off makes and misses. We believe the first 7 seconds after getting possession are the most important. This is when the defense is the most spread out and unorganized, giving us the best chance to run down the court and get off a good shot. Defensively we are also aggressive. We have girls that will get out and deny the ball and pressure the ball handler. We kept teams at an average of 54.7 PPG while scoring 75.5 PPG. We also forced our opponents into averaging 14 TOs per game, really attesting to our aggression on defense."

PGHD: Who will be your top defender?

"I think for our top defender it is really a tossup. I would have to say it's a three-way tie between [player_tooltip player_id='342164' first='Maggie' last='Fricke'], [player_tooltip player_id='1053416' first='Eve' last='Knutson'], and [player_tooltip player_id='457913' first='Karew' last='Lamoureux'] (in no particular order). Maggie will be taking less of a defensive role this year due to a knee injury last year and being our primary ball handler. Eve and Karew were our top two and we would put on the other team's best players. Eve is a lengthy 5'9" guard who is super quick and fast in open space. Not many players are going to be faster than her making it hard to beat her off the dribble. Karew is a very physical player. She tends to get into foul trouble here and there but it's all from playing aggressive. She is hard to get past because she isn't afraid of putting her body in front of someone and it is hard to move from her spot. Having a physical defender in Karew and a fast/quick defender in Eve is hard for most teams to find something that will be it."

PGHD: What are your team goals?

"A couple of team goals we have this season are obviously winning our conference title (which would make a 3 peat) and winning the State Title as well. We have a lot of work to do to accomplish both of these titles, but we have a great group of girls who know what it takes and are willing to sacrifice and dig deep in order to get what we want. With so many returners for us this year, we really do have a shot if we can put everything together at the end of the year when it matters the most. We understand that it's not all going to happen in one day, week, or even month, but all that leads up to it. Our girls always tell us we don't want to be our best at the beginning, we want to play and be our best at the end when it matters most."

PGHD: Who are your top shooters?

"A few of our top shooters are [player_tooltip player_id='379041' first='Leelee' last='Bell'], [player_tooltip player_id='342164' first='Maggie' last='Fricke'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1053416' first='Eve' last='Knutson']."

"We have a lot of good shooters any given day but we look at these girls to be our top 3. What makes [player_tooltip player_id='379041' first='Leelee' last='Bell'] such a good shooter is being a head taller than most other players she can see the hoop and has less interference. Not only being a taller player but the fact she can play post, shoot midrange, and has nearly unlimited range, this really opens her shooting for her. You have to be able to respect all three levels of play from her which really opens up her shooting opportunities. Leelee shot an outstanding 37.1% from 3."

"[player_tooltip player_id='342164' first='Maggie' last='Fricke'] is such a confident shooter when she gets the ball. Our whole team believes right along with her that every time she shoots, it's going in. The amount of work she has put into her shot throughout the years is a testament as to why she is as good as she is. She can catch and shoot, she can shoot off the dribble, and she can shoot on the move. She works well off the ball getting open which is tough to guard causing her defenders to get tired and leaving her open. Maggie shot just higher than Lee Lee at a ridiculous 38.3% from 3."

"[player_tooltip player_id='1053416' first='Eve' last='Knutson'] has really worked at her role of being a dead-eye shooter. She has really taken on that role and excelled tremendously with the work she has put in and it really showed last year as she shot a team-high 41.9% from 3. She's a silent assassin from almost anywhere on the court. Once she sees a few go in, it's hard to stop her."

PGHD: Any last comments?

"Even though we are a super young team, we have a lot of girls with experience returning to our team this year. We have 7 of our main 9 varsity players returning and again only two of them being seniors. We lost 2 great seniors in Presley Bennett and Avery Lunde. With that being said, we also have girls that are ready to do what it takes and fill those big shoes. We also have some new pieces we'll be adding that will make a great addition. Some played quite a bit of JV and a little varsity, others are newer to the program and will be looking to make an impact where they can."
