Top Players Shine in Opening Week of Hoops Season

Hopefully if you have been able to step inside a gymnasium, you could feel the energy vibrating off the walls. Teams have been excited to be back on the court. The enthusiasm is in the air, girls going hard each and every possession, and in my opinion, it's been buckets on buckets as kids have been scorching the nets bringing the heat (it's been cold outside that's for sure.)</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Throughout the state, as the football playoffs start to dwindle down, hoops season has gone into full effect. Right before Thanksgiving break, we have had some big-time matchups during opening week. You have seen a lot of teams who were hot last season, pick right back up as they are on a new mission. A lot of teams have retooled, reloaded, and are ready to make a title run as this new season is underway.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Around the state, some schools were able to get it in and get down to business. Dynamic. Two words that describe this young lady's game. This kid was on fire from deep, not even breaking a sweat. Her fingerprints were all over this game as she was one of the most impactful players on the floor. She dropped 21 points effortlessly. What also stood out was the way she was distributed the ball in transition and how she was effective on the defensive end. She looks confident and comfortable on the floor. This kid is about to have a breakthrough season. Keep your eyes on her as she continues to improve her stock as the Lady Mustangs compete and take the district by storm. Dropped 21 points and grabbed 6 boards as her ball club beat Karns 55-46. Colie was shooting it at a high clip from multiple spots on the floor. A tenacious player, this kid was giving Karns the business as she couldn't be neutralized at all. One of the top wings in her class, this kid is a tremendous talent who competes on both ends. If she keeps it up, look for CAK to surprise some people this year and make a deep run. This kid knows how to manipulate a defense, getting to spots that create a favorable advantage for herself or her teammates. A heady floor general who has tight handles, a quick first step, and conducts the offense in a smooth and efficient manner. Has 22 points, 5 rebounds, 5 deflections, 3 assists, and 1 steal as her team won 52-48. Complete game. Complete player. With 15 points, 11 boards, and 5 assists, this kid has that “Mamba Mentality” and is going to help her club make a run at state contention. Amaya shouldered the load as she was aggressive and put the ball in the cup. She draws so much attention, it frees up her teammates to get in on the action as well. This kid has a motor, plays hard on both ends of the floor. Tennessee Tech got a steal in this young lady. This young lady means business. Look for Amaya to continue on this upwards trajectory and lead this Lady Irish ballclub to multiple victories.
