On Thursday Prep Girls Hoops Oregon named five players to the Capitol City First Team All-Tournament. A lot of talent showed their skill on the court in Salem and it was hard to delineate between a first and second team.

How did we decide? We didn't just pick players who scored the most points from teams that won the most games. Sometimes individual players with consistent contributions in multiple statistical categories against competitive opponents don't make it to the finals. Sometimes there are a lot of top performers who play the same positions. We considered supporting statistics, balanced positions, and resumes of competition when making team selections.

Below are our picks for Second Team All-Tournament:

Junior guard [player_tooltip player_id='991248' first='Dyllyn' last='Howell'] had a strong and complete tournament for South Medford, averaging 14.6 points, 2.3 three-pointers made, and at least 4 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals per game. Howell was a bubble first-team pick and was named Player of the Game against McMinnville. She put in work on defense with 6 boards against tournament champion Clovis West. She was instrumental in breaking the end of the press, whipping cross-court assists to teammate Mayen Akpan in the paint. She had an athletic block from behind on the baseline. Howell has the confidence to drain the pull-up 3-pointer after making a steal in the backcourt. Whether in transition or from an individual effort during the halfcourt offense, Howell has a fast, direct take to the rim and can finish strong through contact and the foul.

Senior guard [player_tooltip player_id='570457' first='Keegan' last='Medeiros'] averaged 16 points per game for Clovis West at the Capitol City Classic. Medeiros is an excellent ball handler who can create her own offense. She has a smooth hesitation to beat the first defender at the perimeter. She can get creative through the paint to beat the help side defense and take it to the rim for a controlled layup. Medeiros is also a shooter and can hit from midrange or long distance—she averaged 2 three-pointers per game. Medeiros committed to Cal State Monterey Bay with teammate [player_tooltip player_id='570459' first='Riley' last='Walls'].

Clovis West senior [player_tooltip player_id='520583' first='Alexis' last='Swillis'] averaged 12.6 points and at least 4 rebounds per game at the Capitol City Classic. Swillis is a big presence in the key at both ends of the court and gets in a good box-out position for the offensive rebound—she tallied three putbacks in the final against South Medford and two in the semifinal against Willamette. Swillis is a big target in the paint and can make the kick-out pass to her teammates' hands in shooting position for the assist. Swillis was heads-up on defense in the final, picking off a long-court pass at the back of the press and poking the ball away on the bounce pass coming inside the paint. She reads the ball well to protect the rim and make blocks near the basket. Swillis committed to UNLV.

Clovis West sophomore point guard [player_tooltip player_id='622536' first='Ramie' last='Chatman'] averaged 7.6 points and at least 3.6 assists per game at the Capitol City Classic. She was named Player of the Game against Willamette. Chatman is a playmaker with excellent vision and passing skills, launching perfectly timed cross-court assists from the perimeter to backdoor teammates in the paint. She's unhurried and finds the right player at the right time. Chatman is cheeky on the take through the paint, finding ways to finish with acrobatic scoop layups under bigger players. Although Chatman often looks for the assist first, she makes choice selections from the arc and averaged 1.3 three-pointers made per game.

Senior [player_tooltip player_id='833642' first='Macie' last='Arzner'] returned to the court for McMinnville in its second game at the Capitol City Classic after she sustained an ankle injury in the Grizzlies second game of the season, which put her out for more than three games. Arzner looked strong at the tournament, averaging 25.5 points and 2 three-pointers made per game. She has a strong, athletic build and is a force on both ends of the court. Arzner has excellent ball-handling skills and can beat players on the dribble to find her spot or take it all the way to the rim. She has a high, quick release on her pull-up 3 and her stop-and-pop midrange. Arzner is involved in more rebounds and steals than the box score shows. She's constantly screening and cutting off-ball and has a knack for being in the right place for boards and picks. Her vision and playmaking abilities are next-level. Arzner committed to Pittsburgh.
