Holiday Hoops Highlights: Talent Shines in Sevierville

Happy New Year as well. Hoops action never stops and this past week over the holiday break, our Tennessee clubs were in action putting in that work. I had the opportunity to catch some holiday hoops action in Sevierville, TN at the Winterfest Shootout hosted by Sevier Co. Let me just say they did an excellent job putting on this tournament and I came away thoroughly impressed by the quality of teams in action. When I tell you hoops were at a premium, this was a nice solid tournament that pitted teams together with similar skill sets. This kid was scoring it from all 3 levels, but it was her poise that stood out to me. She knew when and where to attack, got to her spots and exploited the D, and just got after it on both ends of the floor. When her team needed a bucket, she was the go-to gal, but she also knew who to feed if they had the hot hand. She's selfless and  I loved the way she put her club on her back when they needed something to happen. She is still finding her footing as she transferred in, however when its time to make a play, she's there when she is needed the most. Has great hands, she finished dumped passes at the rim. She was big, grabbing O-boards and putting it back in, as well as anchoring the paint on the defensive end. She shines especially when teams go to zone as her height gives her an advantage. She is just solid all around doing whatever she can to help her ball club to victory. She can score in the mid-range, from beyond the arc, handle the ball, and make timely assists to her teammates. She's long, so she minimizes passing lanes on the defensive end. She contributes big on the boards and starts transitional breaks if need be. Hustle. Hustle. Hustle. There is no stop. Can score it from all 3 levels, but it's her ability to wiggle past defenders to get to favorable spots to score that's impressive. Her never quit attitude is infectious and it showed in the style of play this team has. She's the leading catalyst and she just goes hard all the time. High IQ wing who gets after it. Heady ball player who made the right plays at the right time. She scored from multiple levels on the floor coming in clutch when her team needed a bucket. She knows how to turn the momentum in her team's favor as she was aggressive on the offensive end and played stifling defense. Poise with the ball in her hands, she knows how to get to favorable spots to exploit matchups. She is a high point scorer, finding the bottom of the net at a consistent clip. Her team goes as she goes and the energy and effort she plays with is amazing. Super tough on both ends, this kid is going to be a steal for the Lady Raiders of MTSU. As long as she is on the court, look for great things to happen with this ball club. Going the distance? This club has a true chance to do so with Carsyn at the helm.
